Issues with VA Beach Post Office?

Has anyone had any issues with the VA Beach USPS office for CACG? I sent a sub via 2-day Priority Mail last week and we're now at day 8. I've submitted a missing mail request in the hopes that it moves things along. This isn't quite long enough that I'm panicking yet and I'm still in optimistic mode that it's just delayed, especially given that it made it to the VA Beach post office. If it were stuck in some processing center elsewhere I'd be more concerned. But anyone, just curious if anyone else has had issues recently ..read more

IMPORTANT Tip for Every Collector

Here’s a crazy but true story that happened to me about two weeks ago. I noticed in my CACG and MyCollect Registry Lincoln Wheat DATE set that my 1950-S Lincoln, graded MS67RD by PCGS with a CAC sticker, did not show as having that sticker. I then went to the CAC “Coin Look-Up” tool, and lo and behold, that cert showed as not CAC! I emailed CAC to let them know that I bought that 1950-S Lincoln MS67RD PCGS w/CAC two years ago from Heritage, and I included a photo of the Heritage info, showing the coin and their description that it was indeed CAC stickered. CAC asked me to send them the coin. I ..read more

1921-S Walker Found in Fire Salvage

I finally got around to searching through a bag of coins that have been sitting in a closet since 1976. They were dug up after an apartment fire, by my wife, as a child, and her Dad. It was quite a traumatic experience. Her Dad was an avid collector, but then became divorced, and moved back to Europe. So, there it sat, until a couple months ago when I was cleaning out her Mom’s house after her passing. I knew it was there a few years prior, but was too busy with the task of clearing out the house. He collected everything, including foreign, mostly obtained from travelers visiting hotels along ..read more

I added them to My Collection without any issue but they won’t go into my sets? Most of my other coins go into my sets but not these. These are CAC and non-CAC coins. And I’m trying to put them into the Universal sets. Any help would be much appreciated ..read more

Questions for Professional graders re: grading proof coins
CAC Forums

First off, let me say that I am impressed and very pleased with CACG grading of proof coins. I have not yet seen a single coin where I could effectively argue that the assigned numerical grade was off. Every single CACG proof that I have seen that gives the initial impression of being under graded, given enough scrutiny reveals the reason for the grade. Given that the grading of proof coins is LARGELY about detecting of hairlines, this leads me to a few questions: 1) Does it take more time for a pro to grade proofs (vs mint state)? 2) Unless I am mistaken, halogen lights are considered the "go ..read more

photographing coins is a fascinating, challenging, and satisfying aspect of collecting beautifully toned, lustrous CAC coins, which represent nearly 100% of my collection. I recently bought camera equipment (Canon D90 plus Sigma 100 macro lens) and Mark Goodman’s most excellent book (the latter on eBay…). My next challenge is lighting. If anyone has recommendations on what lights work best for you, I am all ears (and eyes). Halogen vs LED vs Ott Lite? Kelvin at 3000 or 5000? Etc. And, your 3 best lighting tips or tricks (other than not touching halogen lamps with bare fingers?) thanks much in ..read more

CAC registry initial thoughts from a seated dollar coll

First thing I noticed was the improvement in speed loading the set categories vs PCGS reg. I think the format feels right, it’s easy to navigate.  I like all the different set sub categories for seated dollars.  The weighting system is also an improvement.  Weighting based on overall rarity is better than rarity in mint state imo.  The team at CAC did a great job!  ..read more
