There’s Nothing Like Old Friends to Warm Your Spirit

When I was about four years old I couldn’t understand why my mother had to go to “Bridge Club.” For crying out loud, she could stay home with Dad, my brother, and me and have a lovely time getting us what we needed. Right? No! Bridge club night was sacred. It only took me a little over 20 years to understand. From left: Sheila, Gayle, Julia, and Mom (Karen) enjoying their monthly lunch. It seems food has replaced bridge! We Need a Name I’m dubbing this group “Four Fabulous Friends Forever” (or 4-F for short) because more than one of them has said: “We need a name!” I’ve had a ball learning ..read more

Check Out Twenty-three Things I’m Hoping for in 2023

I’m terrible at keeping New Year’s resolutions. I can’t even meet loosey-goosey “gonna try real hard” goals, as can be verified by my January 2022 blog. I was so ambitious, it spilled into two posts…here and here. Okay. So no judgment on my lack of success. Right? I’m not willing to put myself out there again like that. This year is going to be all about HOPE! Serious, silly, meaningful, frivolous…My hopes are all over the place. Don’t believe me? Well, continue reading, dear reader. Greater appreciation of our friends and family 1. I’m going to start off serious, but don’t worry…I won’t s ..read more

I thought it would be fun to look back at this year and come up with a list of twenty-two things I loved about it–a mishmash of my favorites. Say so-long to this year on an upbeat. No, it wasn’t all sparkles and sunshine. Some hard things came my family’s way this year. But even the difficult can yield good. We may have to scratch a little harder to find it, but it is–or one day will be–there. I got tickled and had a good LOL all by myself when I looked back at some posts I’d written in January. (You can read them here and here) Boy, did I have some ambitions! But these two posts reminded me ..read more

This Simple Christmas Craft Stacks Up to be a Hit with Your Littles

We’ll be celebrating with all of our grandkids the week after Christmas and I CAN’T WAIT!! ChiChi (that’s me) always has a craft or two to do with them in my studio/playroom. This year’s is SO CUTE! Materials You’ll Need: 1. Inexpensive salt and pepper shakers. I got these at Walmart. They’re about 3 inches tall. 2. Some scraps of material like these fat eighths or ribbon. Yarn and burlap can work, but I didn’t like the finished product as much. You could also use sparkly pipe cleaners or gift wrapping trims.  3. Thread spools. You can leave some or all the thread on the spool if you ..read more

Right here at Christmas time I’m all about the sweet treats! And a sugar cookie is hard to pass up. But I’ve found some that are (ALMOST) hard to eat…because they are works of art. If you haven’t seen my friend Teressa Carroll’s amazing personalized cookies, prepare yourself before you read this post. They are gorgeous and delicious. I believe this baker extraordinaire can do anything with a simple sugar cookie and icing. No kidding. Sugar High Teressa has been decorating cookies “officially” since October 2019. She  worked in Mammography for 30 years before that and stepped back ..read more

Santa visits all seven of our grandkids at their homes in Birmingham and Charlotte, but ChiChi and Pop can’t resist stuffing their stockings when they come to visit at our house! I have the best time gathering little goodies throughout the year. But the bulk of it comes from one of my favorite stores–Dollar Tree! Take a look at some things I’ve found this year. I’ve included links when I can. All you have to do now is click and, voila, your stockings can be stuffed too Truth: Sugar + Kids = Crazy. But, their parents can deal with that. We’re just the grandparents. Right? No stocking w ..read more

I Would LOVE to Wear These for the Holidays
Fabulous Over 50

I see you…You, the one who adores sequins and velvet and loves going to parties during the holidays. And you, the one who puts on stretchy pants and a red sweatshirt, calls it a Christmas outfit, and prefers to stay at home watching Hallmark Christmas movies the entire month. No matter where you fall on the holiday “social” scale, we all have to put something on our bodies. Or, risk being reported for indecent exposure, not to mention being awfully cold. Admittedly, I lean toward stretchy pants with tunics, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate sparkles. Whatever your style M.O., I’ve got ..read more

We recently got to spend a weekend with our Alabama crew and were happily surprised to see their cute, cozy home all decked out for Christmas! Since I’m a little behind in the decorating department this year, I thought you would enjoy seeing and hearing about theirs. You’re going to find some fun ideas that will inspire you! An Early Christmas Gift Keighlee’s mom has treated each of her three daughters to a fabulous gift–having their home decorated by interior designer Angela Lancaster. (You might want to add that idea to your list–to give or receive! I don’t know how you’d add it to your ..read more

How to Celebrate Children’s Book Week
Fabulous Over 50

I can’t think of anything I’d rather celebrate more than books. Okay, there’s faith, family, and special holidays…But you know what I mean! And there’s nobody I’d rather celebrate books with than kids. Don’t you just love the way a kid gets quiet when you read them their favorite book? My grandkids lean into me as I wrap one arm around them and hold the book in my other hand. It’s a precious time. Book lovers know that there is nothing more magical than being transported to another dimension. Children need imaginary worlds as much as adults do. Whether they climb through a wardrobe ..read more
