Your challenge is to tell an entertaining story with a beginning, middle and end in exactly 1 minute with 1 continuous shot. That's right! This project is inspired by Orson Welles', (of Citizen Kane and War of the Worlds), famous 1 shot scene from Touch of Evil. Many movies and shows have taken on the challenge over the years and there is always a little nod to the originator, Orson Welles. Films like Birdman with Michael Keaton, and 1917 by director Sam Mendes and his DP Roger Deakins are wonderful modern examples of feature length films. Below are some of the best known professional example ..read more

Another way to "up your game" as a filmmaker is to add movement to your shots. Using sliders, gimbels, wheeled chairs, skateboards, towels, and tripods are great ways to add that extra element of visual interest and complexity. Slow Motion

Slow Motion is an incredibly useful effect / tool to use in editing BUT it all starts with how you film the video in the first place. If you film at a 24 or 30 FPS (Frames Per Second) you will have a lot of motion blur when you slow the footage down. If you film at 60 FPS or higher you will have clearer footage when you use SlowMo. If you are filming sports always make sure you are using at least 60 FPS or you will be sorry when you get to the edit. Here is a little SlowMo experiment. Film video and label with text in the following FPS (Frames per Second). If the video is full speed you will ..read more

10 Unforeseen Effects of the Writers and Actors Strike on Us - The Viewers

About the strike, first, let me say that the writers and actors have legitimate gripes with the entertainment industry and the impact reaches far beyond the silver screen. 1. As technology is evolving AI is able to clone voices and images with little to no legal parameters or limitations? The question, what should the limitations be and how would talent be compensated. 2. Corporations and producers allowed streaming services to fall into a contractual loophole where actors and writers did not receive the financial benefits like the standard contracts of the past. For instance, if you were in a ..read more

Commentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBk4NYhWNMM Are You Going to See the Barbie Movie? I will be going to see the Barbie Movie because the trailer and press interviews have done a great job of selling a fun story. These days we can all use a little bit of that. Do You Even Like Barbie? As a kid in the 80s, I was not a huge Barbie fan. But, I did play with my friends' dolls on occasion. Mainly I would comb their hair, which always turned that beautiful plastic mane into a completely unmanageable mess, and sometimes leaving me with no choice but to cut all those snarled lochs off.
