The easiest (and beautiful!) plants that even bloom throughout the winter.  I have found (literally) the easiest plant/flower EVER. It's inexpensive, spreads and fills in like crazy, doesn't even need to be truly "planted"...and you can complete ignore it and it will thrive. Yesss!  These plants have flourished so much, I've added more and more to our containers and landscaping over the years.  I found these easy garden tiles a few years ago and continue to be amazed at how well they do with little to no care.  Oh, and they are perennials (which means it stays alive ove ..read more

How to replace wire linen closet shelving with sturdy wood shelves.  This messy linen closet has been a thorn in my side for YEARS! I finally removed the wire shelves and replaced them with wood in this closet makeover.  Our upstairs linen closet is where we keep most of our linens for the house, since we use our downstairs linen closet for extras like paper towels, kitchen towels, toilet paper, etc.  Yes, we are so lucky to have tons of storage in our house! It just doesn't always function how we would like! :)  So let's finally fix that. I loathe wire shelves...but w ..read more

How to install tongue and groove shiplap on a wall.  Add character to your walls with this beautiful DIY vertical tongue and groove detail! As much as we've loved the darker, cozy feel of our bedroom, the colors I used when I first decorated it years ago have really restricted the accents I could use:  src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJtBfP5YeQpx8p5aZWEtNDW-OeTMc9Xmfh5dzh6kV0A2XxVsr0HDQrg_0AyghfF5dhepwybMHt3XoUpjRUw3jWA9NOlRGTuXe6Ch3qzDZtB99ofF04MmIjg6o0vhmGknapWLLFX9kQjhCV9S9VcoirSS6qTYloSE1JL4CJhr-gVdRLnnl6wVJFR4GDVg4/s16000/gray%20grasscloth%20coz ..read more

How to Easily Cut Crown Molding {This Jig Saves So Much Time}

This crown cutting jig makes cutting and installing crown molding a BREEZE! If you've ever cut crown molding on a miter saw, you know what a pain it can be. I used to have to keep example pieces of molding with the cuts nearby to remind myself every time I do it because it can be so confusing.  To get the perfect cut, there's a lot of flipping and reversing (anyone else singing "is it worth it, let me work it?"), and making sure the crown lays just right on the saw. I've tried coping the crown molding joints (using a hand saw to "cope" the ends of the crown) and can never get it right ..read more

Should trim paint or doors match the wall color? See what I do in our home! There's no wrong answer to this question! This is purely up to your preferences and how you want your room to feel and look in the end.  I've always loved the look of crisp, white trim against a dark wall color:  Get all the details of our blue and white floral hallway.   But over the years I've also become more attracted to painting trim (and even doors!) the same as the walls.  I knew I was in love when I painted our mantel and fireplace surround to match the rest of the fireplace w ..read more

Five ways to make your home feel warmer during the dark winter months. How I add soft ambient lighting around our home during the dreary winter days!  I actually quite like an occasional cloudy winter or rainy day. It's the perfect excuse to stay in comfy clothes, light a candle and turn on all of the soft lighting in the house.  But the dark winter months get to us all after a while.  I waited the longest I ever have to take down our Christmas trees this month. Especially the basement tree -- the twinkle lights were just so pretty and soothing. I wanted to leave it up forev ..read more

How to decorate large, empty walls in your home!  More than 25 beautiful ways to decorate large walls.  I find big walls difficult to decorate -- and so many homes have them now! With the open floor plans and two-story rooms in newer houses, they are so much more common. Now, I will say...sometimes I find it best to ignore a big wall, at least when it comes to two story, taller walls.  The super high walls in our old house bugged me for years, and at first I went high with the art. I quickly learned they don't need to be accentuated...it's obvious it's a big wall. ;) So I sta ..read more
