Spraying a fence

I'm going to use the new Graco low pressure (yellow) tips and back brushing. The boards are pretty close together, but I'm still going to put large pieces of cardboard on the other side to stop spray from going through plus use a paint shield. Other than avoid wind, any other tips to avoid overspray on neighboring houses and cars? I've never sprayed outside and I'm kind of terrified. The homeowner is having me use Cabot solid color acrylic stain and sealer tinted black if that helps ..read more

Cockroach waste?

I just went through a condo today to get ready to do an estimate. I will go over the whole place in person with the owner later, but I took photos and made notes today. In the kitchen I came across some spots on the soffit above the upper cabinets. The photos below show the highest concentrations of spots, but there are spots over most of the kitchen and living room ceilings. I am trying to tell myself that this is some sort of faux type stuff, but I think it actually is cockroach... Cockroach waste ..read more

Sherwin Williams deck paint

I do more interior painting than exterior, and for decks I normally recommend penetrating stains for easier maintenance. Customer has a painted deck in good condition with some minor prep needed. It's a gray, and she wants a darker gray, and prefers SW specifically. Color will be Peppercorn. The two SW coatings I see are SuperDeck waterborne solid stain, SuperDeck Deck and Dock, Porch and Floor Enamel, or H&C acrylic. Can anyone recommend either of these, or something else from their line ..read more

Hey everyone, I've been dealing with some paint issues at home and could really use some advice. It seems like no matter what I do, the paint just isn't holding up well. It's peeling in some areas and looks discolored in others. I've tried different brands and application techniques, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips or recommendations for fixing the problem would be greatly appreciated ..read more

Identifying masonite vs fiber-cement siding
Paint Talk Forum

The majority of homes calling for repaint lately are either fiber cement or hardboard- Is there an obvious distinction between the two, in areas where the coating has chipped or peeled off? I know the swollen brown mess of cardboard that masonite/hardboard can look like. But at a recent quote, there were some small chipped/peeling areas that were a grey-ish colour underneath, and the faux wood texture was completely intact. The HO was confident that it was hardboard, although that seems to... Identifying masonite vs fiber-cement siding ..read more

Bad static build up when spraying oil

So I manage production in a prefinishing facility. The machine I operate is a Makor Iride 206. When spraying oil based products the material off gassing on our steel racks builds up a bad static charge. This thing will get you good and make you feel like a bee stung you for a solid 20 minutes. I’ve tried everything. I bought a spool of copper wire exposed the ends grounded the machine to the earth ground for our building, transfer the paint over to a plastic bucket. Tried grounding the...
