At the start of 2023 I branched out on my own and started my own business. I was keeping relatively busy at first. And I still seem to be getting a lot of request for bids, but the problem is I have about $80k of bids out spread out through about 9-10 bids. I have started charging around $3.00 per sqft to paint, and business seems to have slowed down. Is that pricing pretty close to industry standard? So far its been about 2 1/2 weeks since my last job and am just getting sorta ansy. I feel... Looking for tips and advice with my new business ..read more

I am needing to paint 4 elevator doors using a wolf Gordon Scuff Master solid metal paint. Has anybody here ever sprayed this product before using a HVLP gun if so, do you need to spray so many 4 coats like the videos say. I also was wondering about the inner lip of the elevators how did you paint them. I always use a roller to paint the inner lip of the elevator doors, but I dont see anything on rolling this product? ttps://www.scuffmaster.com/solid-metal ..read more

Painting Cabinets

I have to paint a few kitchen cabinets in a tiny little kitchen in a cheap rental. I've done cabinets a few times, but they always already had a bad paint job. This is the first one that is unpainted and might actually turn out nice if I do it right. It's a good one to practice on. I told him that there would be drips and runs and brush marks all over the place and he doesn't care. And he doesn't care about the inside. So there is no downside. I have an airless, but I think that... Painting Cabinets ..read more

Non-toxic primers and paint

I am talking with a client about doing painting in her house. She is very concerned that any products used will be non-toxic as she is very sensitive to a wide variety of chemicals and mold. Some of her interior-side windows may appear to have mold on unsealed/primed/painted wood areas. I recall posting about lime based primers and paint here back in 2016, but I am asking about this 7 years later and was advised by PT to start a new thread. The product line I am speaking of is this... Non-toxic primers and paint ..read more

Rehabbing an 1880's House

Hey everyone, after 16 years of full time painting and another 32 years of "doing it on the side", I've effectively gotten to the point where I don't have to do it anymore. At 55 years old, I've had enough. NOT! My 25 year old younger daughter just bought a house with her longtime boyfriend that was built in 1880 and it needs lots of work. It's had additions added and updates along the way but to say it's mint would be a severe understatement and some of that work was done subpar. Thus, I've... Rehabbing an 1880's House ..read more
