We have about 10 aluminum window frames we are doing in a remodel. We aren't changing them out, so we need to clean them. They look like 10 people sat around and chain smoked for years. What is the easiest way to clean them? We've tried goof off and it works sort of. Next is simple green. Any sure fire ways to dissolve the nicotine and various other crud off these windows? Mold protective coating

I want to treat the walls in the bathroom with a protective coating against mold. The walls are concrete. Previously, in some places there was mold in the gypsum putty and behind the tiles, which were spilled with chlorine several times before the renovation began. Now everything has been cleaned, the concrete has been polished and dust-free. Next, somewhere there will be cement plaster, somewhere waterproofing, somewhere directly tile adhesive. But, still, there are fears that the mold may... mold protective coating ..read more

Spraying exteriors and overspray

What are your rules/tips for spraying exteriors and not getting overspray on anything around? Most of my spraying I do interior work. For exterior I usually grab the roller because I'm always afraid of overspray getting on something. Not as fast as spraying but not too much longer and I don't have to worry about having to pay for someone's car or house to get repainted due to overspray. But I'm doing a 2 story building now with lots of pipes and stuff on the back wall. Will be a real... Spraying exteriors and overspray ..read more

Spraying exteriors, is it worth the risk of overspray?

Just wondering what is everyone's thoughts/experiences on spraying exteriors. I have always heard stories of overspray landing on the neighbor's cars/house/etc, but other painters seem to spray all the time outside with no problems. It seems that whenever is spray I can follow the paint dust cloud with my eyes for 50 ft or more sometimes. I know less pressure equals less overspray, but do certain paints/gun tips/oil vs latex affect the amount of overspray as well? Any tips are appreciated ..read more

Just finishing up a dining set. Table all finished and chairs all finished but 1. As Murphy would have it, I had one chair needing a final coat and half way through, run out of paint. No problem, just run out and get some more, right? WRONG! Not one local store has it in stock but will let me know when it's back on the shelf. I am so, bloody PI$$ED! Will supply issues never end ..read more

Interesting paint

I was watching a British tv show called Flipping Bangers. The characters went to an auto paint store and got this "special" paint that they applied to a car with brushes and rollers. The paint appears to level and flow to the point of looking comparable to sprayed paint. Hard to tell because they used flat black. Has anyone seen or used this kind of paint here in the US? I'd be curious to find some and try it. I can see many applications on machinery, tools, etc. No, not on cars ..read more

Hi there folks. I just finished trimming out an unusual job. Bare wood cabinets in a work shop for a private home. Owner requested no finish. She wants them sprayed with waterborne alkyd paint. The painter asked me if I knew what to use to thin this kind of paint and it seems like I heard you could use Floetrol. Do any of you pros have an answer and if so, what ratio would you recommend? Thank You ..read more
