I have to repaint a lot of my house as the guy's that did it the first time were blind alcoholics. I've been using SW Emerald urethane paint, great stuff, but at $116 a gallon I die a little inside every time I need some. Turns out Home Depot sells a urethane paint for $45 a gallon. That's a substantial price difference and darn tempting. Any of you used it? If so, did it perform as you expected? If it's pretty good as opposed to the emerald being outstanding, I might give it a try.

What are you using to fill interior MDF trim? Painted and non painted.
I used to use Crackshot, but can't find it anymore. All the lightweight fillers I've used have sucked. They dry to a powder that just falls out when I do a light sanding.
Even some I've used in the past don't work the same. Just sanded some Red Devil or DAP Platinum, can't remember that has been sitting for months and it is gooey ..read more

Probably set in my ways, but typically I would scape out the loose stuff, and use Minwax hardener, let it dry, and then fill with Minwax High Performance wood putty or bondo. Kinda slow.
Now I'm experimenting with Abatron stuff (WoodEpox and LiquidWood). Better, but pricey. Nice that you can wet with the two-part liquid, and fill right away, and even blend the two to change consistency.
But I'm also eyeing the Flex-Tec epoxy (and primer), since it retains some elasticity in the repair...

I am looking to understand why this exterior paint job failed, and whether the contractor's proposed solution (scrape and repaint only where paint is coming off) will be adequate. This professional paint contractor used Sherwin Williams Duration on my house and garage. A year later, the paint is failing on all four sides; both on the trim and cedar siding. The garage trim is failing but the paint on the garage siding (not cedar) seems fine.
The painters brushed on the trim paint...

Guys, what is a good compound to deoxidize/clean/polish an exterior aluminum threshold? The threshold is not worn or dirty at all, it's in a spot where there is zero traffic. Just oxidized from being out in the weather for many years ..read more

All I want to know is can you paint the back side of a mirror. I want to build a cabinet door and I'd like the rear of the mirror to be the same white as the door is. Searched it and it's everything but the simple task of painting over the grey mirror coating on the backside of a mirror.
Specifically I want to use my solvent based acid catalyzed conversion varnish to coat the rear of the mirror.
