Hi all, I have a house number plate that needs to be touched up. Its numbers are carved in stone, like gray stone half an inch thick. I was wondering what the best paint type to use would be: Enamel? Acrylic? I also think a clear coat would help, given that I live in Canada and therefore it may help with our winters. Last but not least: is there a kit? I mean, I cannot buy a quarter, as I really need to touch up. So I am looking for something like 4oz; therefore, I was wondering if... Best paint type to touch-up house number ..read more

How is this piano finished?

This piano has always been in climate control. This portion that is flaking is facing a southern window, though receives no direct sunlight. I’d like to do a little rehab on it. It’s not a particularly valuable piano, so I don’t think I can do any damage to it. I’m thinking light sanding and apply something to it ..read more

Are these chips and cracks in exterior paint a sign of bad paint, bad prep or that moisture is getting in the masonite siding?

We have a section of our house on the exterior that needs touch up paint more than other areas due to the paint chipping and cracking. Here are photos. The masonite siding underneath is old but seems solid, with no signs of rot. This wall is facing south, but surprisingly, these cracks and the peeling only appear on the lower half of the wall, so I don't think the sun is the problem or they would be all over the wall. This section was previously... Are these chips and cracks in exterior paint a sign of bad paint, bad prep or that moisture is getting in the masonite siding ..read more

Greetings, I am new to this forum. I live in Spokane Valley WA along the Spokane River and I am a fairly accomplished woodworker. I am building four Adirondack Chairs with two matching tables using 6/4 Cedar surface planed, rounded edges and sanded smooth. These chairs and tables will be outside for use on my lawn along the river bank and will get wet. My wife wants them white so what would be the best finish...Acrylic Solid Color Stain or Acrylic Primer and Paint? Also, how many coats... Finishing Adirondack Chairs ..read more

Weathered wood door

The house was built in 1996 and I'm sure the previous owner didn't do anything to this door. So it's 28 years old and pretty dry. House faces east so it gets some morning sun. The door sits back about 10' under cover so it's somewhat protected. I've been here for 2 years and decided this is the year to do something and I'm looking for ideas, suggestions. I'm not sure what the stains are on the bottom right but could guess it may have been from some wet... weathered wood door ..read more

Paint question

My bedroom walls have dark green eggshell paint that doesn't peel or flake, but it scratches off easily (1st pic) and its dark pigment rubs off easily. I now want to repaint the room with a flat bright tan color. Could I just sand the green paint, enough to leave a speckle pattern of the underlying paint layer, before priming it? I'm worried that, if I ever scratch the new paint without having sanded the green paint, it will come off regardless of primer strength. Two other walls have... Paint question ..read more

Trying to decide on a sprayer for new construction

I’m building spec homes and I want to start priming them and painting them myself. Another friend is building as well. I’ll eventually be priming and painting his homes. As far as a sprayer I was leaning towards the Graco 495. Or should I spend the extra money and get the 695? are the new xt sprayers pretty solid? I haven’t heard much about them I know they just came out. I doubt I will run two guns at once, but it may happen here and there. I’ll be painting 3-4 homes a year. Up to 6... Made a cherry live edge table. Wife wants a darker color to match the living room. She likes how Danish oil darkened up some cherry picture frames I made. Being a living room table, I want some kinda protection for the top. I have water based poly on hand. Will the poly stick to the Danish oil? Thanks much...Don ..read more
