Hello there! I was wondering if anyone here took geography as their undergrad degree. And I was also wondering if: Are you taking up a Master's and/or PhD related with geography? If yes, how did you get in? What are the tips you can share with me? What were your extracurricular activities that you did? How many research papers did you publish and share with your current college for grad studies? I hope this is not too much. I really want to study more about geography. Thank you so much! I hope to hear from you soon. Whether your degree is related to geog or not, I would love to hear fro ..read more

Undergraduate Seeking Advice on Applying to Geography Programs

I attend a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts that does not have a geography department. I'm an Urban Studies major and am attracted to studying Geography after undergraduate because I am fascinated with maps and spatial analysis. I have two questions: 1) Since I am not a geography major and do not have access to many geography courses, am I at a serious disadvantage in getting accepted into a M.A. or Ph.D. program in Geography? 2) What experience would I need in order to be competitive for a M.A. or Ph.D. program in Geography? There is no one with a Ph.D. in Geography at the college ..read more

I might as well get it started for this year! There doesn't seem to be a ton of traffic on this site for would-be geography grad students, but perhaps they are just hiding and not posting. Anyway, I haven't heard anything back yet from my programs yet. Wondering if anyone else has any response from geography departments ..read more

Geography MA, maybe?

Hey all, I'm currently embroiled in the applications process and wanted to see if anybody here could give me some insight. I'm applying to MA programs, possibly on the way to an eventual PhD (a number of years out of my undergraduate, where I studied an unrelated field) and was initially mostly looking at environmental studies/environmental humanities programs. My interests are wide-ranging but center around food systems and agricultural land use and I focused on interdisciplinary programs where I could work in a few different departments to hone my research. Interested in a sort of cross-sect ..read more

Hello everybody, I am a GIS/Planning Degree holder with a 2.7 GPA looking to change focus and go into Atmospheric Science. I am over 2 years removed from graduation and just can't seem to shake the feeling that I made the wrong decision and want to get an advanced degree to change careers. I will have to take a year of Physics and a year and a half of Calculus to shore up that knowledge gap but i have always loved weather and been fascinated by it. I took a Weather and Climate course in undergrad and have taken remote sensing as well both of which I aced with flying colors because I  ..read more

Welcome! I figure it's time to kick things off for 2017, exactly a year to the date the previous thread was made.  It's that time of year where there's a million things to do to get applications ship-shape, school choices need to be made and there is a lot to think about! Best of Luck everybody- let's hear where everyone is thinking of applying to, research interests and the like.  I'm a Brit, obviously, so will be an international student which will make the process that little bit harder, but hey- I love a challenge! Research Interests: I have very disparate research ..read more
