The Complex Nature of Rejection
Salt + Sparrow Blog

No one likes to be rejected, but it’s unfortunately something we all experience. For most of us, the sting of rejection was first felt at an early age. Maybe it was when there wasn’t a seat for you at the lunch table or when you were chosen last for the team. The desire to be included was so strong, you felt more than just left out. You felt unloved.  The pain was real then just like it’s real now. Rejection hurts no matter how old you are. As we get older, the stakes become higher. Rejections still come our way whether it’s something seemingly small like having a text go unanswered or so ..read more

Let Jesus Shine His Light on You

Have you ever lost a pill? Perhaps it slipped out of your hand right as you were about to take it, rolling away out of sight.  If you’re like me, when something like this happens, you reach for your phone because that’s the quickest flashlight you can get your hands on. You then drop to your knees because that bright spotlight has to be on the same level as the darkness that seemingly swallowed your pill before you had a chance to. Almost always, the light is the reason we find the pill that got away from us. Pin this for later… This post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Servi ..read more

Cities of the Bible: Jericho
Salt + Sparrow Blog
by Mary Welsh

Jericho was, and is, a city located near the Jordan River that still exists today and it is still inhabited. It is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. Jericho is the home of many important Biblical moments: Jesus healed Blind Bartimaeus at Jericho (Mark10:46-52), Zaccheaeus was converted at Jericho, and the Parable of the Good Samaritan took place on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho (Luke 10:30- 37). It was not that large of a city in Joshua’s day but it was a highly fortified city, with walls up to 25 feet high and 20 feet thick. This was the city that God instructe ..read more

There’s Only One Source for the Hope We All Need
Salt + Sparrow Blog

As I read my Bible, it seems I’m constantly reminded of the importance of hope. The funny thing is hope doesn’t always look like I think it should. Take Hannah, for example. I absolutely cannot wrap my head around her painful desire to be a mother ending in having a son who she only saw once a year. Yet she gives every indication of being grateful to the Lord for giving Samuel to her. She is never anything but a loving mother. In fact, she loved Samuel so much that she was willing to love God even more, something that would not only change his life but ours as well. As is true with everything ..read more

I Was Blind, But Now I See

I love the passage in John 9:1-41 where Jesus heals a man blind from birth. The very first verse of chapter 9 melts me: “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.“ So many people passing by on their way into the temple ignored, avoided, and walked around him, but Jesus saw him, and was moved with compassion by his circumstance. In Greek, the phrase “passed by” is “parago.” John chapter 8 ends with Jesus “parago” those who want to stone Him. Chapter 9 opens with Him passing by the man born blind. He has passed by two different types of blindness – physical and spiritual. I ..read more

Embracing the Wait for God’s Promises

Trigger warning: this post mentions infertility. Waiting is an intrinsic part of life’s journey, often serving as a profound test of faith.  It’s a universal experience that goes beyond childhood anticipation, reaching into the depths of our most cherished dreams and aspirations. Growing up, I found it particularly challenging to wait.  My parents often kept me in suspense about activities I loved, causing the anticipation sometimes to seem unbearable.  However, as I matured, I understood that waiting was more than just a test of patience; it became a test of faith.  ..read more

A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Start a Bible Study: Building Community through Spiritual Growth
Salt + Sparrow Blog
by Natasha Funderburk

I was recently invited to join a small Bible study with a few friends and truth be told, I was overjoyed. I have been craving connection with other Christian women for awhile now, and what better way to foster those relationships than through getting to know each other better while simultaneously studying God’s word? Which got me thinking.. why didn’t I get involved in a Bible study sooner? While I can’t take credit for starting the study, I wish it was something I had thought of when these feelings first arose. If you are someone who has been craving that same kind of community and wanting to ..read more
