New to Iridium processing and other PMs

I have mostly been a home remodeler and machine builder in my life, avid naturalist so geology and chemistry for refining I have been trying to learn the last 2 years. I have had 3 conformations of finding some iridium in ore with iron, aluminium, and some other PMs. I have the acids and minor lab to do the job and smelting furnaces, what is the best processes at this point of ore? Magnets to refine for starter, panning, Cook with Bithmus as a collector, Potash, Borax, quarts sand, Sodium... Read more ..read more

Durable gold alloys
Gold Refining & Metal Extraction Forum

Just kicking around some ideas that may be useful if the event of a totalitarian world government. What is the easiest durable high karat gold alloy to prepare in the basement? I picture a time when gramme weight (1,2,5,10g) plain bands with mass and fineness engraved INSIDE will be needed for honest commerce. Would a 50% gold-copper alloy be the most practical for value calculations? An ounce of gold is always going to be too big to regular transactions but gramme of 50% gold is now... Out-quarting gold ?
Gold Refining & Metal Extraction Forum

A strange though occurred to me. What if one were to in-quart gold alloy with gold instead of Silver raising the fineness. Is there a karat value reached when it is practical to dissolve the gold (and base metals) leaving the silver behind? Could one make a practical workflow that would not require nitric? Obviously one would need enough fine gold on hand to do the alloying ..read more

Hello all, New member here. Found this forum via videos on Youtube. My main interest in metal refining stems from a childhood interest in numismatics, combined with an interest in geology and chemistry. I had a sizable coin collection as a young adult that I sold most of to help purchase our first house. We have just recently have gotten established enough to restart that hobby, and perhaps as a byproduct of that hobby I have developed an interest in stockpiling precious metals. Making... Nitric gone bad.
Gold Refining & Metal Extraction Forum
by Angry

I had 2 bad solutions in succession in that my gold did not drop out. Did not know why. I recently changed my acid in my workshop using the nitric that I use in my agua. I found that it only darkens my gold and not cleaning it as it is suppose to. It is mixed 50/50. Did the nitric expire? Probably 3 years old. 5 Litre bottle. Shit question: but that must be the reason why my gold drops failed miserably and the question is that, can nitric survive for 3 years in dim darkness and in a plastic... Read more ..read more
