This has been an overview of the efforts of Houston ISD’s Nutrition Services to go beyond the plate and ensure that students and families develop more than a consumer relationship with their food. A sense of community and belonging was cultivated in the in-person meeting. The “gratitude board” included little moments throughout the day that made individuals in the space feel welcome.
