Painting the Star Wars Legion A-A5 Speeder Truck

The Star Wars universe is a rich and diverse backdrop for a wonderful scifi storyline. Space fighters and battleships fight it out, planet sized stations blast giant lasers out to blow targets into oblivion. And of course there are the trucks. What? Yep… Star Wars has a Speeder Truck. My understanding is that it is canon through the inclusion in a game. And I suppose it makes sense. For all the exciting stuff that goes on, there has to be someone hauling food, ammo, and other supplies. So why not a Speeder Truck? This kit from Fantasy Flight Games is a wonderful build. Deep Thoughts – Ten Things For 2024

So what do you do when you don’t have a model ready for a video, but you realize it’s been several months since you published anything? If you’re me, you jot down a few notes for a “script”, turn on the camera, and do like Led Zeppelin… “Ramble On”. The result is some stuff to think about. The timing with the New Year is purely coincidental. But it does make for a better thumbnail right? Please subscribe on YouTube to see future video releases. Accurate Miniatures: A behind the scenes look

This is an older article I had originally published on my AgapeModels.com site. Now that it is gone, I’ve had requests to republish this here. Keep in mind it was first published in September 2007, so it is quite old. Still, I think the information it holds is quite interesting when discussing the question of “why doesn’t Company A build Subject Z?” You may also find this older article from my blog interesting as well: Manufacturing model airplanes is a BUSINESS, not a hobby Note that Accurate Miniatures is no longer in business, but many of their kits can still be found online, and other comp ..read more

Painting and weathering the Maschinen Krieger SAFS Type R “Rabid” Raccoon

I figured it was time to branch back out and do other genres. I’ve enjoyed the year long focus on Warhammer 40K, and will continue building them. But I realized there’s just so much out there that I also want to build. So I kicked things off with a Maschinen Krieger build. The painting and weathering for this model is very narrative driven. In reading about this particular version of the SAFS, I noted that it was not only a recon version, but also was used as a command and control version. That got the wheels turning. The Raccoon typically is not armed, but if it were a C&C unit, I could i ..read more

I’d done a previous video along the lines of this subject, but I thought it was time to address it again in more depth. Or at least say the same stuff again and just take more time. In either case, hopefully our friend Al Gorithm will be happy. (And if not… ) Please subscribe on YouTube to see future video releases. We need a NEW Larry!

A few years ago when I’d made the switch from aircraft to scifi, I had my first experience in Maschinen Krieger building a kit based on the AFS called the New Rally Pawn. If I recall correctly, the lore was it was a fighting suit used in an attack to take back something (maybe on the moon), thus the “New Rally” part. And the Pawn part of the name was… well, they got blowed up quite a bit. Anyway, I wanted to revisit that kit, as I quite enjoyed it. I’ve always found it fun to have a “do over” of kits I’ve built in the past that I really liked. And it’s not an exciting kit. Just basically a man ..read more

Building this Ballistus Dreadnought was quite a bit of fun. I was pretty happy with how the bone colored armor turned out. Happily I didn’t have to toss out a load of cash to get the whole Leviathan box set either – I picked this one up on Ebay as a standalone model. Overall, it’s a great kit that is fun to paint and weather, and I’d recommend to it to any model builder – Warhammer 40K player or not. Beginner’s Build: The Warhammer 40K Rhino

Sometimes in making videos about the hobby, it’s easy to get caught up in things like multi-color chipping, dot filter techniques, color modulation, and so much more. All of those advanced techniques can be great fun to learn and apply. However, two related events reminded me that the majority of the people in the hobby may not be that interested in all of those things. Sometimes, folks just want to build a simple but satisfying kit. And every day, there are new people coming into the hobby. My mind started mulling the possibilities of a beginner build video when a patron asked if I had any vi ..read more

Painting & Weathering an Orky Jet: Part 1 – Rust

My maternal grandparents had a small barn in their back yard. It had been around for my entire life… about 7 years… when I first dared to explore it a bit. It was actually much older than that. It may have dated back to the Ice Age, or even when T-Rex roamed the Earth. Maybe even as far back as the late 1930’s, if you can believe that. I wasn’t really clear on the exact timeline. But it was old. The barn was filled with all sorts of mysterious things. I was quite sure they must have been some sort of Mediaeval weaponry, or perhaps the tools used in building the Pyramids. They may have even bee ..read more
