Some FPV first timer questions

I have played, very little with RC helicopters and cars - many years ago. I was not very good! I am now in my mid 60's and would like to dabble with FPV, planning on building a quad from scratch. I first need to see if I have what it takes to fly one. My plan right now is to get a Radiomaster Boxer and hook it up to a simulator and spend a lot of time doing some training. I just remembered though that I still have my Phoenix Simulator complete with Spektrum DX5e that I have upgraded to V6.0i. It only has a few multirotor models. DJI Phantom, Blade 350-QX, MQX, Gaui 330X Would this setup be a g ..read more

I have 2 questions. I am still learning the RC world so bear with me. 1) Any recommendations on adapting DJI Smart Controller for use with RC vehicles? I like the DJI FPV and would like to use this smart controller I already have for the video feed at least but I don't see much online for use of the quad copter controller to control a vehicle. 2) The Smart controller isn't compatible with the new O3 air unit and I have seen youtube videos of people adapting the O3 to RC cars. Any comments or recommendations on the subject would be appreciated ..read more

SOLVED! Set sbus_baud_fast = off that’s it I have successfully bound my Frsky R XSR receiver to my taranis qx7. I updated the firmware on both the transmitter and receiver. I have checked the wiring. (I would happily send you pictures of the soldering but I am fairly sure that connections are made in the correct places.) I have the UART 1 set to serial rx as shown in the manual for my FC. I have the provider set to sbus. I tried all four combinations of invertedrx and halfduplex on and off. I've spent many hours searching for the answer and I can't figure it out! Analog Vs Walksnail for tiny whoop

Hi, I am looking for some advice I have been flying tiny whoops for around a year and am wanting to get into 5-inch freestyle quads in the future. I am in the market for some new goggles upgrading from a cheap set of box goggles. I am finding it hard to decide between a set of higher-end analog goggles with the capability to upgrade to a standalone walksnail receiver or making the switch completely to walksnail goggles and drones. I am not opposed to switching completely as I only have a couple of analog drones as it is and will probably end up passing down my old RTF kit so someone else can g ..read more

FRSKY Taranis X9 Lite - setting up frsky transimitter. NEED UPDATES

I bought a used quad drone from someone. It came with a X9 lite radio. I then built a new quad and cannot get the frsky transmitter to bind to the radio. I have done everything suggested by youtube vids, frsky manual, etc. I am getting the new updated firmware to go onto the sd card for the radio, its unzipped and copied. The file shows up in firmware menu on the radio when I put the sd card back into the radio, but I cannot get the new firmware to actually load into the radio. I got a bit carried away and did a factory reset on this thing. Rest assured, I have ordered a new frsky radio s18, b ..read more

dear community, trying to arm my speedybee f405 wing flight controller, settings seem to be correct, the OSD says, can't arm because throttle not low, but of course it's all the way down, also endpoints are correct, still can't arm. any ideas, by the way receiver tab shows correct values 1000us to 2000us, i set min_check to 1009us from 1100 motor idle power is set to 0, but i don't have any motors set up, only servos, the outputs tab shows the correct movement of the servo channels, Th channel is controlling a servo in my build ..read more

!Drone Sequences for "10,000 days" with Eric Tucker This is some of the coolest FPV footage I've seen and before anyone gets all up in arms about flying around a manned aircraft, this was done with appropriate waivers and permissions. It was shot for the documentary short ’26,000 Days’, chronicling the life-affirming perspective of air show pilot Eric Tucker. The camera used on the drone was the RED Komodo with combination of a 15mm and 21mm Laowa lenses. Check out the video below and than let me know what you think about it. Could you film like this? Goggles OSD graphics overlay

My friends are teasing me about flying FPV. I imagine myself flying my quads like Anakin was flying his Pod Racer in Star Wars. So I Googled and watched some old clips of the pod race. That brought up a thought. The OSD we see in our goggles are pretty boring. Battery voltage, flight time, core temperature, current draw. All in white text. Occasionally when the camera lens is too wide we see the prop guards, the props or the edge of the canopy. So has anyone come up with some small graphics to put on the screen that can cover the propeller and prop guard. May be a fake front cowl of the tur ..read more

What system/gear do i choose?

Hi I want some advice when it comes to FPV gear. So, I want to try out some FPV flying, both short range and long range. I´m going to start with a small, fast and agile drone then later buy or DIY a long range, bigger drone. I also would like to choose gear that i also can put on a electric airplane for some long range airplane FPV. I´m not a complete newbie with RC planes. I used to build a lot of foam RC airplanes and fly a few ready made models a long time ago, like more than 10 years ago. But that was a long time ago and technology have made huge progress since those days. I have looked a ..read more
