It is with great pleasure that we confirm our presence in the Telegraph’s ‘Best Hotels 2018’ list. We appear eighth on the list amongst some amazing properties. Highcliffe’s entry in the Telegraph online travel directory has been something we have been very proud of for the last year or so and this new campaign for 2018 just puts the cherry on the Bakewell. We would like to assure you all that since 2011 Highcliffe B&B has not used any online travel agents to help sell our rooms. That’s right, we don’t use ANY! We were delighted to see that Highcliffe was featured in The Guardian this August by travel writer Lesley Gillian during her ‘Dorset to Cornwall Road trip’. Lesley stayed in some amazing hotels and B&BS and visited some of the lovely sites of Britain’s beautiful coastline such as Cardon Hill and Goran Haven. In many ways we felt we had pushed the staycation boundaries by doing something a little more modern when it came to the expectation of the B&B stay. When we bought Highcliffe in July 2008 we wanted to be everything different from the experiences of our childhoods. There was once a time when you didn’t get your own key, instead you were politely thrown out by 10am and not allowed back till 4pm and locked out altogether if you didn’t return by 10pm. When the news to lock down finally came from Boris 20th March 2020 we closed both Highcliffe B&B and INDIdog Eatery immediately. If I’m honest it was a relief. Financially it was terrifying but what mattered more was the threat of the virus. The Reality Hit We had seen the turnover of INDIdog decline rapidly in the week leading up to 20th March and all anyone could talk about was COVID and the ‘what ifs’. Accommodation in the guide is decided solely on merit and all entries into the guide begin with a recommendation from a Good Hotel Guide member.
