While we wait for the solar eclipse in April (sorry, family has claimed all our rooms), we are finding much to do here. The Town of Cornwall is training us to track wildlife, documenting the movement of mammals across the land.  And in Middlebury the Town Hall Theater is busy with plays, film and a reno. Music at the Ripton Community Coffeehouse and Burnham Presents in Lincoln warm the dark weekend evenings. The B&B business is closed, but we may list the two downstairs rooms on AIRBNB for big Middlebury College events (graduation, NESCAC). Look for us HERE. Or look for us HERE. The p ..read more

Our front door, welcoming folks in 2023. What a beautiful Vermont autumn, after a lush, colorful (wet and buggy) summer! The B&B will be on hiatus over the next few months as we head into winter; not taking reservations till April 2024. We had a successful season, offering two downstairs rooms to travelers from all over the US. And we had several family reunions fill the house with laughter and meaning. A few of the recollections that make me happy: the gasps of delight when presenting our colorful  polenta breakfast, a couple relaxing on the matching chaises by the zinnia garden, t ..read more

It’s Time to Visit a Vermont B&B

Need to dream? Book a Green Mountain getaway for later this summer. We are 4.5 hours from New York City and 3.5 hours from Boston. Come pick fall raspberries, dip in a mountain stream, eat fresh and foraged food, and collect Vermont craft brews and cider to bring home.  In the 1980’s I explored the Lake District in England. We’d stop at the village post office and call from a list of B&Bs or Guest Houses to find a room. We were house guests. Cozy and cared for, but left to our solitude as we chose. After a rich breakfast, with the host’s tips for our walk, we’d head on our way. Cornwa ..read more

Do you love a New England winter? We do! Especially as the days are getting longer. In 2022 brilliant sunny days, powdery snow, smooth solid pond ice, and cold temperatures have been the welcome norm. Lots of winter birds at the feeder and animal tracks in the woods. It is a perfect Vermont winter. Local restaurants are serving up chef prepared delights in cozy settings, and the local theater and music scenes have found their groove too.  We feel safe going to local events during the winter months at Town Hall Theater and other venues in Vermont because we know they’ll check that we are ..read more

It is a beautiful time to visit central Vermont. We have been savoring the late summer. The leaves are brilliant when the sun shines. On trails in the Green Mountains you’ll find assorted colorful mushrooms. Birds are stopping by on their way to Quebec.  It is hard to turn away from the sunsets. But chilly autumn winds from the Adirondacks are finally routing these borrowed days. Button your jackets!  Fall also means some changes for us. Beginning in November and through the winter we will have 2 lovely downstairs rooms available for two-night stays with delicious hot breakfast on we ..read more

Ready for Spring B&B Reservations in Middlebury, Vermont

There are good changes coming at Cornwall Orchards Bed and Breakfast.  We are stirring in our hibernation—grateful for the cold nights (Vermont winters should be cold!) the diverse birds at the feeder, the hens who lay colorful eggs, and for bobcat and fox tracks in the field (thankfully, none by the coop). It has been a quiet year. We grew Zora sunflowers and heritage popcorn, along with berries and apples. We built a farm stand and sold rhubarb, raspberries, currant and raspberry jam, granola, and muffins. We are relieved that, so far, our family has dodged COVID-19. Plans are afoot to ..read more

We plan to re-open our beloved B&B in May, 2021. We are excited, but cautious. Hoping for further good news about treatment and the vaccines. We want to give visitors an excellent experience, so we are so relieved that vaccines are available and people are getting the jab! Nibble to your heart’s content.
