In the Halifax and its surrounding area within a 10-kilometer radius, there are about 10 ice skating rinks. Additionally, when the lakes freeze, outdoor rinks are also added. I went ice skating for the first time in about 20 years. When I stepped onto the ice, my legs were shaking with fear, but I slowly slid around while holding onto Sam. I even used one of those kids’ support things for a while, and after about 20 minutes of practice, I started to get the hang of it again and could skate on my own somewhat, and I actually enjoyed it ..read more

At this time of year, we visit Johnson River Falls, a nearby waterfall, annually. Three years ago, the trail was very icy, but this year, there’s an incredible amount of snow. The trail has been somewhat compacted with snowshoes, but walking with boots occasionally sinks into the snow. We walked tirelessly across the snowy expanse. Along the way, we found a spot where we could sit down and enjoyed lunch with the hamburgers. This year’s hike to Johnson River Falls proved to be quite an adventure, with the vast snowscape and the satisfying break for lunch adding to the experience ..read more

Nova Scotia, which was hit by record-breaking snowfall about a week ago, has once again been blanketed with 40cm of snow overnight, barely allowing the previous snow to melt. This morning was sunny, and the sun sparkled on the snow, making it dazzlingly beautiful. Sam skied down the freshly powdered driveway. But let’s be real, he was more like a wobbly penguin at first because the snow was too fluffy, sinking with every step, desperately trying to keep his cool ..read more

Sam has received the ski instructor certificate and he started instructing ski at Ski Martock in Windsor, Nova Scotia in January 2024. The other day, I went there with Sam for skiing, marking my first time on the slopes in nearly 5 years. Martock is a small ski resort with only 4 runs, 1 lift, and 1 T-bar. Nevertheless, the slopes are quite long and despite initial doubts, the experience proved surprisingly enjoyable. It’s about 1 hour drive from Burgundy Dream B&B ..read more

Nova Scotia was hit with a rare heavy snowfall. The daily snowfall at our B&B was a good workout just to get rid of the snow from our driveway. We decided to do something with the heavy snow and created Igloo. We toasted with sake in Igloo. Main dish is Oden which is a type of traditional Japanese hotpot. Having oden in the Igloo is the happiest thing ever ..read more
