I’ve just bought a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo with standard 2M red cartridge and its being added to my old [but gold] basic setup. I’m running everything through a Rotel RA-04 amp and B&W 685’s, with an old Macbook Pro for Spotify/other digital music coming into the amp via an SMSL SU1 DAC. Like many people of my generation, I have a collection of vinyl that I just couldn't part with. Nostalgia, I suppose, but it's also been in the packing boxes for a few moves now. Suddenly I see a major resurgence of vinyl and record players. What is old and new again, but I remember when we gave up records in favor of higher definition and clarity. Hi, so i have 2 Turntables that both worked when i bought them. The SL1200Mk2 is connected to the Phono1 input on the Mixer as the amp doesnt come with a phono Input. From the Mixer i have a phono lead that goes into the A1 or any channel on the Cambridge Amplifier. From the back of the amplifier , i have wires going from the speaker outputs to the Speakers. So I’m trying to buy my partner a turntable without him knowing hence I can’t ask any questions. He loves music, loves records, used to have a player (I’m not sure which one) but now has all his records still so he definetelt wouldn’t want a really cheap one that could damage them. My budget is low (in this realm) and like £350ish so I have obviously looked at Rega, Pro Ject etc but I’m getting SO confused!! He already has some KRK Rokit 5 speakers that he used for his decks. I was just thinking today at the age of 24, I must be in the minority at this age group who really appreciate music, more specifically turntables and vinyl records. i say this because all my peers are shocked at my 'obscene' obsession with hifi, my fiancée (bless her) thinks there's no difference between a cheap CD player/speakers compared to a 'proper' hifi... all my mates are in the same boat! Hi everyone, My current turntable is a project debut III with a goldring E3 cartridge. I’m looking to upgrade but unsure what the minimum spend will be for an appreciable difference. I’ve come to the conclusion that it isn’t worth pursuing a better cartridge and it’s probably time to upgrade the complete deck. Would changing to a regs P3 bring a significant change or should I look more at things in the P6 range (which might be out of budget). System is Sugden A48 amplifier, Dali Oberon 3 speakers. The Marantz TT15S1 is getting very little use these days. Since buying a Luxman CD player, I’ve spent almost all my time listening to that. Today, I thought I’d spin a few records, blow the dust off the turntable and see how things sound. Happy with the music but the background noise is so much more noticeable after listening exclusively to cd for a good few months. Hi, Can someone give me a walkthrough on applying new thermal paste to the underside of the voltage regulator when fitting a new chassis/ plinth (or new to me) on a mk2 sl1200? Old plinth is is pretty bashed up so got a new one off e bay that is in overall better condition. I have purchased some paste (Arctic mx4) and hope this will do the job?
