Hi, I want to try other cartridges, currently have a Nagaoka MP-110 and a Shure M97xE, I was thinking about the Ortofon Blue or the AT VM95SH, which are within my budget, any recommendation or preference between these 2? I use a Technics SL-D2 and a Sansui AU-317, and listen to rock between the 60's and 80's and also R&B from the 70's. Any comments would be welcome. Greetings and thanks ..read more

I have this stylus on my v15 type lll cartridge and would appreciate some clarification regarding the stylus. I thought this stylus is an HE (hyper elliptical) but saw a pamphlet that originally came with these cartridges with the Super Tracking stylus only describing it as an elliptical stylus with no mention of HE. Is it possible the Super Tracking stylus is not an HE needle? Thanks ..read more

Any recommendations as to viability compared to a new stylus. I had never heard of this since recently needing to replace a stylus. Is it worth the cost compared to a new stylus. What are some of the indications a stylus might be beyond re-tipping? Thanks ..read more

Pioneer PL-400X speed fluctuation issue

Recently acquired turntable that is in pretty good condition, though will still benefit from a deep clean. This is a quartz lock direct drive model. 45 speed has no fluctuation and I have tested with a couple of singles. The full automatic mechanism appears to be working as intended. However, on 33 speed there is a momentary dip in rotational speed, visible in the 'strobe' window and audible on LP play. Interestingly, I left it spinning for some time on 45, then changed speed to 33 and... Read more ..read more

Rega Planar 2 Question Concerning Anti-Skate Repair
Tapeheads » Turntables and Vinyl Forum

The question is “repair or not” given this classic anti-skate belt failure and the time required to repair. The belts are still available although the replacement belt isn’t quite like the original one but is provided is a kit that accomplishes the delicate repair and apparently restores exact functionality to the anti-skate control. I read sometime ago when I first encounter this issue, the advice was not to bother with it as the anti-skate effect was minimal at best. The concern of damage... Read more ..read more
