Six of the UK’s leading dog welfare and veterinary groups have come together to launch a fight against the Dangerous Dogs Act which was introduced in 1991 with the purpose of keeping the public safe following a number of accidents and incidents involving dogs. The act prohibits the keeping of four types of dogs – the pitbull terrier, Japanese tosa, dogo Argentino and fila Brasilerio.  The law makes it illegal to own, sell, breed, give away or abandon these types of dogs. A new study highlights the prevalence of professional stereotypes within the veterinary community Stereotypes have long been powerful in society and are faced by us all in everyday life. A recent study sought to explore whether they exist within the veterinary field. Results from a UK-based study supported by The University of Surrey has shown that speciality-specific stereotypes exist within the veterinary community. WSAVA survey highlights the huge demand for oncology knowledge

A survey of over 2,000 vets conducted by a newly formed working group found that veterinary professionals around the world rate their knowledge of oncology at just 5 out of 10 on average. Run in 10 languages during September and October 2021, the aim of the survey was to help WSAVA members improve their level of care for oncology patients and to understand what help members needed urgently. The average score varied by location, with Chinese respondents rating their knowledge at the highest level (6.6), with Ukrainian respondents rating the lowest (4.2).
