Any experience of Hetzner Auction Dedicated servers...

Hi All, I'm slowly trying to move from a 10 year old WHM/cPanel dedicated server and have been using VPSs (Almalinux/Virtualmin) from Contabo. I've read so many negatives recently on Contabo, I'm scared to setup more VPSs with them (although, to be fair, I haven't experienced any issues yet, but would rather not find out...). Hetzner VPSs don't seem to be anywhere near as competitive as Contabo, but I've seen they offer older kit in their auction system (older, but still pretty high spec). Does anyone have an experience of them? How hard to setup for a relative newbie with Almalinux/virtualmi ..read more

VPS host without server limits?

Hi! I'm in the process of setting up an open source data project. I was initially looking at going down the Kubernetes route but ... I quickly realised that I was out of my depth. I'm happier admining Linux VPSes with Portainer. A few months ago - in the bad old days of self-hosting! - I would have said "who needs 10 servers? Or even 5 servers?". But as I'm setting bits and pieces up I'm quickly notching up my count (after spending way too long playing with reverse proxies and trying to make SSL certs agree with Cloudflare I've decided that it's best to keep applications on their own instance ..read more

How to configure multiple servers, websites, and domains on just one VPS (IP)?

Currently I'm hosting a python flask app on PythonAnywhere with a custom domain. I want to host multiple flask apps/servers with multiple custom domains, but I'd need to upgrade to have more than one webapp running at the same time. VPS offers me more flexibility and can actually be cheaper than the pythonanywhere plan. But I just want to make sure and learn how to setup a physical server with only one IP address to run multiple python flask web apps and respond to multiple domains. submitted by /u/MysteriousShadow__ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Price increases

Those of us that have been renting a server for years, how have the price increases been? I'm with Oneprovider and in January 2020 (pre-covid) I had gotten a server on a monthly subscription. Since then the price for a monthly subscription has gone up by around 17% in total. And for an annual subscription went up around 27% since 2022. To be fair the annual subscription was another black Friday deal for the same server but even with the new pricing by month it's like 37% off the monthly subscription. So I'm keeping both. It's not ideal but the price increase for a budget server being below in ..read more

East Cost US Hosting for Cheap?

Looking for some east-cost VPS hosting options. I was looking at Contabo but found some... honest feedback and changed my mind. Was Thinking maybe Hetzner, but wanted some suggestions. I'm currently using the Oracle always Free tier, and the 24GB of ram & 6 CPUs has been working well for what I do, which is mostly website hosting, but I want something I can trust. See a lot of EU suggestions, but as a US resident I wanted to ask what the experienced recommends. submitted by /u/LinuxIsFree [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Cheap VPS provider

I have a VPS with OVH since 2016, but due to the continuous increase of prices I want to change provider. Is there any cheap provider? Storage is not really a concern since I use it mainly as game server, but I'd like to keep at least the RAM. My machine currently has Debian with 2 cores and 8 GM of RAM for 17.50€. I did see that Hostinger offered the same specs for ~10€, is their hosting service good? submitted by /u/Electrical-Dig8651 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

VPS in the UK for access from 16 years old.

Hiya! I recently tried to purchase a VPS from Hetzner, who would be my ideal company to get from because of their great prices, rDNS and storage plans. However, I had my account verification denied on the grounds that I was under 18, and therefore couldn't use their rental agreement (which I am hoping is a German law). I recently spoke to Pebblehost, who I used back in the day to run a Minecraft server, but they don't offer reverse DNS support. Does anyone here have a good VPS provider with decent security and must have reverse dns, for a decent price? Thanks! submitted by /u/alicethefemme ..read more

Seeking a New VPS to Get Away from GoDaddy

Long story short I've used MediaTemple VPS servers for a very long time and have always been satified by their speed, quality, uptime, and support. Recently GoDaddy (who bought them awhile back) merged the hosting services into GoDaddy.com and it is a complete UX nightmare. On top of that all of our servers have lost SSL certs and are running slower than ever before, combine this with the legendary poor support of GoDaddy and it's time I move on to a new provider. Problem is, all of the providers out there are either not giving me all the details I need up front or are making it really hard t ..read more
