January 22, 2024 Ten bed and breakfasts across the United States are banding together to encourage travelers to take a leap, fill their tanks, and see what it’s like to stay at a B&B in a nod toward Leap Day. Starting February 29 th this group of inns will pay $40 toward a tank of gas for each two-consecutive night, midweek, reservation (Monday through Thursday) through the month of March at the participating properties. Am I the only one who has favorite trees? Today I was scrolling through my pictures on my camera and noticed that I have a rather large collection of tree pictures. No matter how many times I walk certain trails or pass certain areas in town, I just can’t stop myself from stopping and admiring these beautiful works of art! Here are a few of my favorites from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Have you seen these? Creating art in Bar harbor for winter residents
Saltair Inn Blog

A few years ago the Town of Bar Harbor added paid parking to all of it’s main streets in the form of parking meters or parking kiosks. There are probably 20 or more parking kiosks stands located around town. During the Winter months, the parking meters are removed for the ease of snow plowing and the kiosks were covered with plywood boxes so visiting guests and local residents would not try to pay for parking. Local artist and resident, Sherry Rassmusen brought a great idea to the parking committee – turn those boring boxes into works of art. They teamed up with ArtWaves, a Bar Harbor visual a ..read more

The world has become a bit overwhelming lately. Wars, floods, fires, politics…It’s hard to find peace. We are fortunate to live in one of the world’s most beautiful places – Acadia National Park – so it’s not that difficult for me to disconnect and find myself lost in the beauty of this most magical place. One of my most favorite things to do while out walking is to spot all of the hearts that surround me. For years, I’ve hunted these little reminders that everything is going to be okay. Love is all around us! The post Hunting for hearts appeared first on Saltair Inn ..read more

Matt and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our new weekend innkeepers, Matt and Leigh Lauck. We are so fortunate that they have come on board for the summer and will be running the inn for us from Friday to Sunday, from now until mid-October. It might be a little confusing with two Matts, so from here on out I’ll be calling them “Chef Matt” and Leigh. Chef Matt is a professionally trained chef with over 30 years of experience in fine dining restaurants, inns, and catering Hollywood movies and TV shows. Leigh spent her childhood summers helping out at her family’s sporting camp ..read more

It’s been a tough few months for all of us here in the United States and abroad. It seems there isn’t any place untouched by the corona-virus. Over the past 15 years Matt and I have had the privilege of welcoming thousands of guests to the inn and we have enjoyed hosting almost every one of them (I’ll have to work on the innkeeper horror stories blog next – just kidding, I’m saving that for retirement). One unexpected joy of innkeeping is to part of so many special celebrations – engagements, honeymoons, elopements, weddings, babymoons, and anniversaries. It’s hard not to feel hopeful, happy, and in love when it surrounds us all the time. The first couple to marry at the inn were Dan and Maureen who asked us to be their witnesses. W ..read more

Immunity boosting orange smoothies inspired by COVID-19! “They” say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it most certainly is when you own and operate a bed and breakfast. Creating inventive and delicious breakfasts for our guests is always a challenge. When we opened the Saltair Inn 15 years ago, we focused on a three course breakfast that included a rich sweet bakery item such as blueberry muffins or coffee cake, followed by a simple fruit dish and a hearty main course such as eggs benedict or stuffed French toast. Over the years, we have observed many eating trends with our g ..read more
