Why We Became Innkeepers – The Brenda and Peter Story
Andon-Reid Inn Blog

Of all the conversations we have with our guests, one of the most common topics is undoubtedly, “Why did we become innkeepers?” or “Have you always wanted to be an innkeeper?”. These are such fun questions to answer as answering helps remind us why we chose to become bed and breakfast owners. One of the things that we love about B&Bs (and most of our guests do too) is the story behind each and every property as well as the stories of the owners and innkeepers. That’s why we love the new tagline of Select Registry so much (“Stay for the Story”) as staying at B&Bs and independent Inns is ..read more

As the weather begins to warm up here in Western North Carolina, it’s exciting to see the Blue Ridge Parkway fully open again!  With an entrance to the Parkway so close to the Inn (just 7 miles away past Barber Orchard Fruit Stand), we love to recommend the Parkway to our guests as a relaxing and beautiful activity.  Stopping at the overlooks is just spectacular and a great place for picnics. There are also tons of hiking trails both simple and challenging, and it’s a great way to take a scenic route to downtown Asheville or the Biltmore Estate if you’ve got some time to spare. During the winter months at the Inn, we have more time to fuss over the Inn and think about how to improve and maintain this beautiful house and care for the grounds.  This time of year, we are thoroughly reminded of the importance of having a dedicated and talented staff as well as a trusted group of local contractors and vendors.  We are lucky to have a great group of both! Our internal team is spectacular, and Waynesville has a thriving small-business community full of talented contractors, specialists and just good folks who do good work.  Our culture here in Waynesville is ..read more

Wintertime in Waynesville brings a slightly slower tempo and a chance for us innkeepers to recharge and get ready for the year ahead.  However, the winter is also a wonderful time of year to experience our area and our Inn.  The weather is relatively mild compared to what you’d think of a mountain winter and our fireplaces keep the Inn cozy, warm, and inviting.  This is why we are so excited about being a part of the NC Smokies Ice Fest Weekend this year January 26-28, 2024.  This event is bringing a new energy to the month of January and also bringing the whole county toge ..read more

Oftentimes, when we talk about places to go and things to do in Waynesville and Haywood County, our unique and growing food truck culture gets overlooked.  Western North Carolina is home to a vibrant, entrepreneurial spirit and the presence of such a robust food truck scene is a testament to that environment.  We want to highlight some of the businesses in our area that consistently show up to events and provide excellent food choices for both locals and tourists alike.  And currently in November and December, the Smoky Mountain Event Center is featuring many of our local food t ..read more

While we focus much of our blog on the town of Waynesville and the Inn, many of our guests use the Andon-Reid as a central home base to do some serious exploring of all the wonders of Western North Carolina.  Undoubtedly, as guests begin planning their excursions, one of the most commonly asked questions is – what are the other cool towns to visit in WNC besides Waynesville?  While we are, of course, partial to Waynesville, all the towns surrounding us are unique, charming and full of character.  Many excursions in our area will take you to or through these towns and they are al ..read more

We recently received a wonderful review from one of our amazing guests that helped to highlight the experience we want guests to have with our breakfast and snack offerings at the Andon-Reid Inn. This guest noted “the breakfasts were outstanding every day…something familiar along with something creative. There are also ample beverages and flavored water available in the afternoons, along with a wonderful baked treat.” The comment about “something familiar along with something creative” really stuck out to us as a great way to sum up our “culinary philosophy” here at the Inn. This past weekend, Waynesville hosted the popular and festive event known as Folkmoot.  It’s one of the bigger events of the year and it kicks off a season where the town hosts some awesome events on both Main Street and other areas of the town.  While Waynesville does host fun events all year round, there is an abundance during the summer and fall months.   It makes for an amazing “Main Street America” ambiance throughout our small town, particularly as our town is full of thriving, locally-owned small businesses.  We’ve gathered a list of some of the more popular eve ..read more

Guests visiting Waynesville and Western North Carolina have no shortage of options for grabbing a drink or enjoying tasty libations.  In fact, Western North Carolina is known for its buzzing craft beer scene, led by the explosion of craft breweries in Asheville, in particular.  That being said, Waynesville (and many other small WNC towns like Sylva, Dillsboro, Bryson City and Brevard) boast some amazing breweries.  As evidenced by the high quality breweries in this area, the water quality is amazing and really helps companies in this area create some top notch product.  Che ..read more
