Finding Peace in Transition
Power Life Blog

Transitions force us out of familiar, old ways of being and into uncertain, new ways of operating. Whether its taking on a new role at work or reforming personal relationships, the mindfulness we cultivate through yoga can not only ease the unsettling feeling of transition, but help you find peace in the process. My divorce papers were filed over one year ago, and today, we still seem far from our final court date. I have no clue what my life will look like or what I’ll have when it finally wraps up. Though I have an idea of how I want things to be, I still know there is plenty outside of my c ..read more

SPRING! It is the time for warmer weather, with a combination of some rainy and cold days. But, we know that the sun will be shining more and we can look forward to pool and patio days. I also love Spring because it means the farmers markets start, we start to plant in our garden, and some of the items we eat change because of the season. Tune in for some of my favorite foods below to add onto your plate. Asparagus – to me, this vegetable screams the Spring season! You can ensure you are getting some fiber added into your diet with the bright green color asparagus provides. There are lots of o ..read more

Power Life Blog

Being in the Midwest, you never know when fall is going to come. Every year it seems to go from summer right to winter overnight. Luckily this year we seem to get some transition time with temps in the 50s and 60s as the leaves start to turn color. As cliché as it sounds, it really is the best time of the year! In addition to changing out the tank tops for sweaters and shorts for jeans, it’s also a great time to take inventory of your beauty products to make sure your skin is ready for the change in seasons. With cooler temps often comes dry everything – lips, hair, skin, you name it! Before t ..read more

Tune into Abundance

We’ve all been there. We’re moving through life feeling happy and satisfied, and then this feeling of “not enoughness” sneaks in. We think if only we had MORE of something, we’d be ok. We’d be better, more lovable or impressive. It’s an easy trap to fall into.  When we get caught up in this way of thinking (which we ALL do, by the way), we lose sight of the wealth that already exists in our lives. We brush it to the side while we set our sights on the next bigger, better thing. Our brain attaches to an imaginary outcome in the future rather than allowing us to be present in this moment. How & Why Yoga is Beneficial to Runners and Endurance Athletes
Power Life Blog

I completed my first Ironman 70.3 triathlon in September 2023 with three goals: finish, have fun and stay injury free. Check, check, mostly check. I did finish the race, I did have fun, and I managed to stay mostly injury free aside from a fall that resulted in a concussion 3 weeks prior to race day. I credit much of my yoga practice to my mental training that allowed me to stay mentally strong and focused, even when it felt nearly impossible. Now as I gear up for my second 70.3 triathlon, it has been helpful to reflect on just how beneficial my yoga practice has been to my training and race d ..read more

In the studios at Power Life, we talk about making sure you stay hydrated with water before, during and after class. We’ve also empowered you to learn how to kick up your hydration with water during this blog post. Do you remember why it is best to stay hydrated? Staying hydrated keeps us moving and grooving! When we are dehydrated, we can be extra tired, have more headaches, and just not feel like ourselves. While your needs are different than mine, we all need to stay on top of it. This can look something like drinking water and other fluids, but also adding hydrating foods into meals and sn ..read more

The Gift of Understanding

Before an international trip, I get overly ambitious about learning the local language. At a minimum, I memorize the basics – numbers, pleasantries and greetings. I’ve also been known to learn everyday words by covering my home with vocabulary sticky notes. My most committed (and intimidating) move was taking private online Italian lessons from a native speaker.  I recently returned from an overseas trip where I had the pleasure of immersing myself in new languages. There were some tricky moments, but I was reminded how much I enjoy the challenge of being in situations where I need to pas ..read more

Whether it’s the early sunrises, muggy temps, neighborhood pools opening, or daylight past 8pm – it’s obvious that summer is back in the Midwest!  All these changes warrant a closet flip, cooler temps in our studios, and a switch up in the cosmetics you throw in your gym bag or purse. To celebrate the start of summer, I wanted to share seven of my favorite summer beauty recs (which by the way, was so difficult to narrow down!). Our ultimate goal with these recommendations? To make sure you have all the best products to keep you cool and protected while looking AND feeling your best! Super ..read more
