Looking into the origins of the Pokémon logo

Hello, every I’m a graphic designer that’s been a fan of the series for ears and always wondered how the Pokémon logo came to be. I heard the logo was designed by Ken Sugimori and wondered what font used as the basis for the Pokémon logo. So far the closest candidate I’ve font so far is the font ITC Kabel Std Ultra that’s been hand modified. Do you agree with my assessment? Disagree? Or did you have another font in mind that Sugimori could have used? 3 posts - 3 participants Read full topic ..read more

FYI for anyone who used this site: As of March 28, 2024, all fonts previously sold on Fonts.com are now available for purchase at MyFonts.com and through Monotype’s subscription service, Monotype Fonts, where applicable. Your customer history will be preserved on MyFonts or through a subscription on Monotype Fonts*. Whichever route you choose, both platforms offer flexible licensing options and convenient ways to access and use the fonts you love for websites, apps, digital ads, and more. Things change, inevitably, but the fonts live on. We’re grateful for your years of support and happy to ..read more

Avenir or Proxima Nova?

Avenir has been one of my go-to typefaces for a while now; I feel it sometimes prints a little light but the aesthetics appeal to me. The organization I’m designing for has a style standard that encourages the use of Proxima Nova. I can probably get away with Avenir but I’m wondering which is more reasonable for this particular project (a printout for teachers). Proxima has a higher x-height which arguably does increase legibility and save a tiny bit of space, but the latter is negligible. 5 posts - 3 participants Read full topic ..read more

Point size formatting blunder in OpenOffice Writer

I have posted this rant in the Writing forums too several months ago. It appears that when I had been using Open Office Writer for many years to write and style some of my upcoming books, some sentences within paragraph styles are not able to take the proper font-size chaning. I always use the default Times New Roman at 12 pt to edit my writings, but I was horrified to see that when I change the point size in the style settings of the various styles, some sentences will ignore the font size change; they will take other types of formatting (such as changing of the font), but they will not take ..read more

Give me clean serif text book fonts

I have an upcoming printing of a lot of books, and 12 pt Times New Roman is my default on my word processor when I edit. But I think it’s kind of aged and heavy on the eyes for printing purposes. When I pick up new books, it seems that it’s been abandoned, because today’s 10-12 pt. text seems more readable than the 10-12 pt. text from the books that were printed quarter of a century ago… Adobe Garamond comes to mind; it looks cleaner and lighter. Any other suggestions? I looked up some suggestions from the web: Libertinus, Adega Serif, and Playfair Display… okay at 50-100 pt. size, but when I ..read more
