So it was June 25, 2016, I went to someone's graduation party and storms were expected, during the party the storms moved in and it began to rain then the graduation party ended. So I tried to get home as soon as possible and a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for my area and it produced a 69 MPH wind gust at my location and caused a downburst. Once I got to my driveway I saw multiple trees down so I had to walk up the driveway and after that, my dad cleared out the driveway. Luckily... Read more ..read more

So, remember the earlier Florida tornadoes? Well, it was well warned. WPEC CBC12 News did a coverage on the event (if i remember correctly) and it somehow, made people who watches the Bills match really mad. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1747030234862338207 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1747025760148131870 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1747035676384678189 These posts for instance has many replies and unfortunately, many of them consisted of Bills fans getting really really mad about the tornado warning and it gets even worse, some of them even threatened to put... Hey everyone, I hope you had a great holiday season and new year. I figured I'd get the ball rolling with a new 2024 thread. How was your chase season? What do you hope this year brings? Any big plans or predictions for 2024? Now on to the seasonal forecasting stuff. I am reshowing some of the verification work that I had presented in the previous thread from the 2023 forecast. Storm Data 2023 won't be ready until February or March, so I am using some of the preliminary data SPC sent in... Read more ..read more

Stormtrack was officially founded on October 9th, 1977. That means the community recently had its 46th birthday. That also means we are just under four years from Stormtrack’s FIFTIETH (that's 50, or the Roman numeral L) year as the place to go for all things associated with storm chasing, including vehicle technology, computer technology and the advent of mobile internet, advances in the understanding of atmospheric processes, advances in... On July 29, 1976, a storm produced 4 tornadoes in Pennsylvania. The first 3 are well documented, however the last one gets lost. A description doesn't appear in Storm Data (the available copy), I've only gotten a description from NWS State College Tornado Database and I think it came from a old copy of Storm Data. The actual tornado does show up in the Storm Events Database luckily ..read more

2013 Ephrata Tornado

In 2013, a storm hit Lancaster County in the Paradise and Gap area. However, it hit Ephrata too, but this part wasn't well documented. Footage of the the Ephrata part surfaces on YouTube, however the video has been made private. (I found it 2 years ago in an article published in 2015) The footage was apparently a tornado forming in Ephrata. Information about the Ephrata part is very hard to find, basically impossible besides that video ..read more

Interesting 15Z RAP Cross Section of the Occlusion in TX/OK (1/8/2024)

For the Weather Enthusiasts among us: running a RAP cross section through this morning's occlusion clearly shows the different air masses ahead/behind/above the frontal complex. (Using Theta-E because it shows the structure more classically than specific humidity does in this case--a little "cheat", if you will.) Note: in the standard cross-section analysis using RAOB stations (not shown), the occlusion is not as apparent, since it is sampled by at most two RAOB stations... Read more ..read more

Inadequately Warned Ft. Lauderdale Tornado
Stormtrack Community

Unfortunately, we are starting 2024 the way we ended 2023 with another poorly warned tornado. This time, in Ft. Lauderdale this evening. Here is my write-up: This Evening's Ft. Lauderdale Tornado Not included in the write-up are two items of interest to StormTrack readers. The first is the ACARS sounding from the FLL Airport. It was an ideal tornado situation. The tornado passed just north of the airport about a half-hour after the sounding. The second is a screen capture from... Read more ..read more
