CEO update – January 2024 The year 2024 is off to a busy start. Our GB squad had their first camp of the year at the iconic St George’s Park. I was able to attend and see the team getting back into the swing of things after Christmas. It was great to witness many of the players from Talent promoted to the squad, and I look forward to seeing their ongoing development. With 8 months left until the 2024 Paralympics, the team continues to improve. GB will compe ..read more

CEO update: November 2023 The 23rd of November saw the launch our league partnership with Allied Mobility. This was followed by an in person launch at our Premiership weekend at Lilleshall on the 25th November. I’m excited to see what the impact of this partnership has on the recruitment of all types of members into out clubs over the coming years. It is challenging to know exactly what the drivers are of people coming to our clubs, but we are sure that the additional visibility across a targeted demographic will sur ..read more

CEO update – September 2023 The GB team travelled to Canada for a joint training camp with the Canadian team. This allowed us to continue developing the squad and implementing the new strategies and playing styles introduced after the Euros, putting us in the best possible situation in this cycle to prepare effectively for Paris. The UK Sport LA 2028 investment process has begun. Our Performance Director Barry Mason and I have been meeting with our UK Sport performance advisor as we navigate through this process. CEO update – August 2023 Met Office figures showed July of 2023 was the UK's sixth wettest on record, with the wet weather trend continuing into August. While the poor weather has ruined many a UK staycation, the frequent wheelchair rugby action across the summer has done its part to keep your wet summer blues at bay. Congratulations to the Leicester Tigers, who were crowned champions of our newly restructured Premiership. The WR5s League has continued its strong growth with four new teams joining this year. Our firs ..read more

It’s been a packed year! CEO end-of-year blog It’s funny how every year around this time we always find ourselves saying “I can’t believe it’s nearly (insert the subsequent year) already….”. I’d like to avoid saying this, however, my first calendar year as CEO of GBWR has gone incredibly fast. I am immensely proud of the work put in by the entire team in such a jammed packed year.  We’ve had three major GB competitions (European Championships in February, World Games in July, World Championships in October), a condensed dom ..read more

World Championship 2022 CEO reflection I can only describe GB’s experience at the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship as an ‘emotional rollercoaster’. Entering the tournament as defending Paralympic champions, number two ranked team in the world, and finishing seventh was certainly not what we expected. Three days before the team were due to depart, we were given the news that one of our key athletes, Stuart Robinson, was unable to travel to Denmark due to a health issue. It was at that point we could all hear the clicking ..read more

Canada wins the King Power Quad Nations in Cardiff! Our King Power Quad Nations elite tournament hosted at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff was a great success. I am continually blown away by the Welsh hospitality and I’m yet to meet anyone who attended that didn’t have a great time. All the teams that were present (GB, Canada, France, and Germany) will be at the World Championship which starts 10 October  so this was the last opportunity for teams to sharpen their swords ahead of the most important competition outside of the Paralympics. A thrilli ..read more
