The couple that surveyed for our foundation are currently building a Blue Ridge Log Cabin. She gave me some photos of the process to share.
See inside the attic? The hinged pieces are folded up and stabilized.
We considered Blue Ridge Log Cabins and I went to their offices and toured. This cabin comes in two main sections. The roof is folded up to transport.

Once the two sections of the log cabin are put together, the roof is unfolded.
Here’s the gable end, swinging up and into place.

Westwood Cabins will build a cabin to your own plans. We showed them our plan and, after they worked it out for us, we realized we liked one of their standard plans better. We made some tweaks, but our plan is nearly identical to the Creekside Manor 3016.
We made very few changes to the standard electrical plan.

The plans are approved and stamped, so we meet with a contractor today for an estimate on grading, the foundation and tie-in work, and the utility hookups, sewer, water, and electric, for our new modular cabin. He can also give us a price for the steps, decks or porches or anything else we want to add.
All customers will need a licensed contractor to put in the foundation and prep water/power/sewer hookups, and ready for the cabin to be set come delivery time. When picking a spot for your small prefab cabin, make sure that a block foundation can be placed there. This block foundation should c ..read more

Westwood Cabins builds prefab cottages or cabins that are a single complete unit, one module modular homes. It took less than two hours to drive to the warehouse they are built in. We looked at everything and took a lot of photos. Here are more of the things that stand out.
Westwood Cabins Home Guard House Wrap by OXConstruction
The houses are built inside a warehouse, so nothing is rained on during construction. (Unlike our house that filled up with water over and over until they got it dried in, with the roof, walls and windows keeping the rain out.)

We need to select handles for the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. These are the standard cabinet pulls and knobs for the Westwood Modular Cabin.
Knobs typically go on doors, pulls would be on drawers. But if we want to, we can have all knobs or all pulls.

Westwood Modular Cabin Kitchen Cabinets
We started by choosing our kitchen layout. Next we need to select what the cabinets will look like in the kitchen and the bathroom.
The modular cabin from Westwood Cabins has a lot of standard kitchen features to choose from. You can also add upgrades like a Farmhouse kitchen sink.

We really fell in love with the quality of the Westwood Cabins when we toured. One of the standard plans is very much like what we have been looking at from Deer Run cabins. But when we toured the factory, we walked through a lot of different layouts to consider.
The kitchen is one of the the biggest differences in the floor plans, so we are going to begin with choosing the kitchen.

The next step in ordering a cabin from Deer Run Cabins is a Customer Worksheet.
The Customer Worksheet makes sure you have considered all of the choices and you and Deer Run Cabins are talking about making the same cabin. It makes sure you know your options and aren’t confused about what you are getting.
It starts with name and date, then continues with the cabin options.

Premier Homes of the Carolinas has the Horizon II available to tour. It is larger than the plan we are looking at, the Horizon IV.

Horizon IV is the smallest, most affordable modular home, with 1,327 square feet. It is listed as 3+ bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. But, it can be built as a two bedroom for even less. It is 27+ feet wide (two 13+ feet sections) and 48-feet long.
