A huge crowd was on hand at Tazewell for the Spring Nationals series. The thought behind the sport of dirt late model racing is a track needs to host a national event to draw a huge crowd. This past weekend showed that is not always the case. Easter weekend saw both the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series off. As has been pointed out in this space and others, the dirt racing season has been getting longer and longer each year. Racing has been running from early January to early December the last few years. That has left a month off for most teams that race for a living. In 2024, the preliminary schedules continued to have racing from early January until early December. WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (January 25, 2024) – The defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Hudson O’Neal started his title defense by winning the tour’s season opener. O’Neal led all but one lap to win the General Tire Super Bowl of Racing on Thursday night at Golden Isles Speedway.   O’Neal yielded the lead for one lap to Jonathan Davenport on lap 22 but fought back to regain the point and go on to win the 40-lap race by 0.633 seconds. 411 Motor Speedway owner, Mitch McCarter, posted on Facebook Wednesday morning a 2024 schedule for the track will be posted soon. We reported earlier the Seymour, Tennessee track was being sold. While no one with the speedway has publicly confirmed or denied the possible transaction, an upcoming schedule is a sign the track will remain open for the immediate future.
