by Jacob Hord, @HordRaceWatcher Cale’s Night: After two potential wins were derailed by steering issues, Cale Thomas and the Jay Kiser Racing #23 car got into victory lane Saturday Night at Fremont Speedway. Thomas, who started fourth, got to second on the opening lap, and then passed Larry Kingseed Jr. on lap four or five, and never looked back. Thomas navigated the slick Fremont surface, picking through heavy lapped traffic in the AFCS Opener. Cap Henry was second most of the race, but couldn’t get close enough to Thomas to make a move. Henry may have had a chance inside ten laps to go, but ..read more

by Jacob Hord, @HordRaceWatcher Mother nature tried her darndest, even winning night one of the Core & Main Spring Nationals, but the green flag flew on Saturday night as the 410’s battled for $6,000 to win, and the 305’s vied for a $1,200 payday. Cap Henry would find himself in victory lane for the 410’s, and Jimmy McGrath Jr. would win his first career race in the 305 division. Some other noteworthy things include:  Axsom is the Real Deal: I’ve watched Axsom a handful of times in a winged sprint car the last year or so, including last weekend at Port Royal, and Saturday at Attica. by JacobHord, @HordRaceWatcher Mother Nature thwarted Port Royal Speedway’s first few attempts of getting their 410 season going, but finally, on Saturday afternoon, the Posse were able to take their first laps around the half-mile in Juniata. Jeff Halligan and Lynton Jeffery paced the field to the green flag for the 25 lap, $6000 to win feature event. They didn’t make it to the frontstretch before the red flag came out. Halligan made contact with Jeffery’s left rear tire, spinning Jeffery in front of the field, with multiple other driver’s piling in.  The second attempt at the start was ..read more

by Jacob Hord, @HordRaceWatcher Coming into the 2024 season, there was a lot of unknowns for Lane Racing. The All Star Circuit of Champions, who they had raced with since 2021, was no more, and they were without a driver. Enter Zane DeVault. DeVault had a strong 2023 season in both 360 and 410 action, picking up wins across the Midwest and in the East at tracks like Riverside, 34 Raceway, and Carolina Speedway.  The math was mathing and last week, it was announced that DeVault would be the pilot of the esteemed Lane Racing #4 machine in 2024. “Zane was the best choice for Lane Racing beca ..read more

(Jacob Hord, photo) by Jacob Hord, @HordRaceWatcher After Cale Thomas was let go of the Rudzik 49X sprinter in late July, it only took about two days before he had a ride once again. Jay Kiser Racing tabbed Thomas to pilot the #23 machine for an Attica Raceway Park- Fremont Speedway weekend. Right out of the gate, Thomas had speed in the 23 car. Even battling with Cap Henry for a win at Attica before contact between the two tipped Thomas over. They finished third at Fremont the following night. One week lat ..read more

by Jacob Hord, @HordRaceWatcher It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but it’s not all doom and gloom either. The sale of the All Star Circuit of Champions to High Limit Racing will, overall and over time, better the sprint car world. But there’s no doubt that there is now a void in Ohio left by the All Stars.  The All Stars had a very nice fit in the sprint car world, they supplemented a variety of regions well. In 2023, the All Stars had 17 scheduled races in Ohio, including Ohio Speedweek. Now there are 17 races missing from that schedule; races that offered more money and offered tracks ..read more
