As many of you have probably seen from social media and the news, these last few years have been really tough on al UK small businesses, when opening your own local business was already tough enough! Many sadly have had to close or start doing their service/products online and work from home instead as physical locations became too expensive to maintain. Waggy Tales is no exception. Does your dog have a snazzy Christmas Outfit or wear a harness out walking? While dressing up your pawesome pooch is absolutely fine (and let's be honest, necessary to match the family's Christmas jumpers!) you must make sure that once you take off their outfit, you take the time to brush out their coat. This is the same for doggies that wear a harness out on their winter walkies. These types of tighter fitting apparel can move the coat around a lot as your dog moves and causes the hair to begin matting. So best practise is once you pop off the outfit or harness, just using your slicker brush ..read more

Everyone has heard of the term shedding when it comes to animals from bunnies up to horses alike. Fewer people have heard of deshedding, and how this can not only help your dogs but also help your vacuum and even alleviate some allergies. So what does deshedding involve in the groomers? We firstly give a good onceover with our deshedding brushes and combs to get a good amount of the hair out and start airing the coat where the dead hair has now gone. Next your pooch will enjoy a wash with our fantastic smelling shampoo, and a brush with a special rubber brush that removes dead hairs with ease ..read more

It's that time of year when the sun is out and it's getting pretty hot outside, so what do we do to help or daycare dogs when they come in to play on hot days? ASTRO TURF We regularly check the temperature both outdoors and on the astro areas to ensure we don't get any burnt toe-beans. If the astro areas get too hot in the sun we either close the most exposed section off until cooled, or we set up our sprinklers to instantly cool the astro down. Plus our dogs love diving in and out of the sprinklers! We have either parasols set up to add more shade or our square gazebo with open sides to add ..read more

Since the beginning of dogs being household family pets, there have always been new trends. Not your fashion accessory trend, but what owners can or should be doing their dogs or puppies. The most recent buzz word every dog owner is conscious of, or talking about now is “socialisation“. As a daycare centre we get many new owners wanting their dogs to join us because they want their dogs or puppies to be up on their socialisation. Daycare is a fantastic source of this, especially with ones like WT that have a vetting process meaning only dogs that are friendly will attend, so you know your dog ..read more

We all know that it's good to keep on top of our dogs claws right from when you have a new pup with those needle claws all the way up to our oldies that can wear them down as naturally anymore, but what is nail and foot care really all about? It’s so important to get young dogs or puppies used to having their feet touched and picked up for nail trims and even treatments at the vets. This can be practised everyday at home with treats to reward behaviour as well as in a salon environment with our puppy package. It’s really important to introduce the process slowly, and use lots of tasty treats ..read more

We get so many different breeds which of course have certain traits depending on their jobs in which they were bred for originally, but as we all know each dog is certainly different in their own right too! Just like us, each dog has a different personality, traits, funny sides, naughty streaks, and what makes them an individual. Here we go through some of the common personalities we see at daycare and how we tailor daycare to these characters, how many do you see in your dogs? The Pup - Full of life, energy for days and everything is new! With these dogs we often limit daycare sessions to be ..read more

Gone are the days where grooming is only for show dogs, specific breeds or just special occasion. Nowadays grooming is much more widely accepted for generalised care, just like our own hygiene routines, we now know it’s just as important for our canine friends too. It’s so important to get young dogs or puppies used to grooming early on in their lives so they have the tools to be able to cope when full grooms, baths or anything else is needed later on. Like with our puppy package, it’s important to introduce the process slowly, firstly just getting used to the salon and groomer, then equipment ..read more
