Possessing all the essential ingredients that a tasty garage rock tune would ever need to be as pleasing as can be, The Rejects’ Just A Little Bit of You was released in 1966. Backed with the crazy smooth swoonsome sounds ..read more

“Musical seeds are planted inside our worries. We change and let them grow into beautiful plants. It’s like an experiment between the arts. This homegrown project blends music with photography, film, and graphics. Everything starts here… and where this journey will lead, time will tell.” (Worries And Other Plants)
Though evidence suggests this artist has been about for at least two years, for the LP Post this is a new discovery! Emerging a few years ago, Swiss artist Dio, a.k.a Worries And Other Plants, makes cool music that resides in the realms of psych-rock. Reporting on the songs I ..read more

Though their album is now available on all the major platforms, I can’t seem to find out anything about the band behind this song/record today and (sadly) they have not uploaded their album to the likes of Bandcamp/Soundcloud. Still, I won’t let this put me off, this music is way to pleasant to pass by!!
Released last month, A Star Nebulous is the new record from a collaboration between Calm Quite Knowing and Orchestra Gold. Though consisting of eight individual tracks, this is one of those albums that is best played from start to finish – and in the order it was created. Some tracks are just ..read more

Formed at the peak of the psychedelic era, The Gurus were an American band that emerged with the promise of great things, but never made it past one album! Known for their pioneering and experimental sounds, they were among the first bands to incorporate Middle Eastern influences into their music, giving their sound an exotic edge!
Sadly, the band broke up without making a large impact on the music scene at the time, but did manage to release two singles on United Artists Records in 1966 and 1967. Released via United Artists, today’s song was backed with Come Girl in 1966, followed a the foll ..read more

How absolutely excited am I to be sharing this little smasher with you today!! This song sounds like it was recorded in someone’s garage (I guess that’s why they called it garage rock) and that is exactly what I LOVE about this!!
In all its unpolished, raw glory, this is just perfect as it is!! Hark at those drums as they shuffle along, the glistening crispness of the cymbals offsetting that bass groove as it rocks out a mighty beat!! The guitar just makes me shiver in all the right ways and the vocals sound like they have come from another planet (or maybe just another room) but it echo’s ou ..read more

Even though this track was pressed on a respectably large label, the band themselves are something of a relative mystery. Coming together in the early 1970’s, The Mebusas hailed from Nigeria. A multitalented collective of about five musicians (I think?), the band were known to fuse elements of soul, funk and psych-rock together with Latin, Caribbean and African flavours. What came out, as I’m sure you will guess, was a full-bodied sound, satisfying to most taste (ear) buds who are partial to that certain ‘funky-soul-world-mix’.

Known for creating some wonderfully eclectic music compilations, Madrid’s Munster Records have recently released their latest instalment ….and this is where you can find today’s song!
After three previous volumes in their Algo Salvaje series, their new record explores the “darkest, neglected and rebellious side of Peruvian 60s garage beat”.
“Algo salvaje” is an anthology devoted to a rich period when hundreds of bands started to emerge from all over the world, inspired by what their US and British contemporaries were doing. Through this avenue and plenty of their own experimentation and ..read more

It always brings me immeasurable joy when I hear a song for the first time and instantly love it! Sometimes I just know from the moment a song starts that I’m going to like what’s coming next…. and I wasn’t wrong about today’s song when I thought just that!
Mother’s Tin Moustache is one of the most memorable psych tracks I’ve heard in a while and I’m not just talking about its name! This song is blissfully bonkers and very cool for so many reasons; where do I start!?
I love the way the song opens with that pulsing tribal beat, it gets you instantly! Then there’s those bonkers, mad-wacky vocal ..read more

Though their lifespan may have only been a relative musical blink in the grand scheme of things, Ultimate Spinach were one of Boston’s answers to the San Francisco scene. At the peak of the psychedelic era, many bands started to emerge from the “Bosstown Sound”, which was a marketing campaign launched as a regional attempt to compete with the “San Francisco Sound”. Among these bands came Ultimate Spinach and I would wager every penny I have that they could give any San Francisco band a run for their money!
Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, this band emerged in 1967 and were gone by 1969. Du ..read more

Oh wow!! This song makes you feel like you have slept walked into a street full of fire crackers and then woke up!! Its crazy, the vocals are insane and it’s a frenzy of sound….I love it!!
The ear-feast that is Planetário came about when Brazilian artists Alceu Valença & Geraldo Azevedo teamed up in 1972 to release their self-titled debut album. This song featured alongside 11 other psych-tinged tracks and constructed what is considered a pioneering record!
Alceu Valença is a poet/musician/composer known and celebrated for his musical fusions of traditional Brazilian music and modern pop ..read more
