Managing Multiple Food Allergies, Intolerances and Picky Eaters
Between one child that is anaphylactic to multiple foods including peanut, pecan, shellfish and garlic. Having one child gluten intolerant. Plus, another dairy intolerant. Add to that several picky eaters in my family. Meal time can get a little hairy.

Quick and Easy Gluten Free Bagels
They say necessity is the mother of invention. That couldn’t ring more true for the creation of these quick and easy gluten free bagels in my kitchen!
A combination of allergies and intolerances created the necessity that led to the bagels. My oldest is anaphylactic to multiple foods (peanut, pecan, shellfish, and garlic), my second oldest is dairy intolerant, and my second youngest is gluten intolerant.
We are still in the process of diagnosing potential Celiac. One of her favorite foods pre-gluten-intolerance, was bagels! In particular, chocolate chip bagels ..read more

The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team | FAACT
I work as the Director of Marketing for the National Non-Profit, FAACT. I was recently asked to write “Allergy-Friendly Halloween Fun“, for their October e-Newsletter.
Halloween and Food Allergies
For people living with food allergies and their families, Halloween can be one of the scariest times of the year. Not the goblins or ghouls – it’s the knocking door-to-door to be met with candy that may or may not contain allergens.

Living in the Arizona desert, we eat more than our fair share of frozen treats year round. One of our favorite things to do is make them homemade. It serves as a fun family activity, and ends with rewarding results.
Food Allergies and Ice Cream Cross Contact
Especially with nut allergies, but also milk or egg, it can be hard to find a trustworthy ice cream that not only excludes your allergens, but also doesn’t have cross-contact. Ice cream shops with shared scoops and equipment are also typically not safe.

Mexican American Roots
Coming from Latin roots on my Mom’s side of the family, and in the southwestern United States, horchata has been a familiar drink ever since I was a little girl.
Horchata History Mapping Back to North Africa
Interestingly enough, horchata originated around 2400 B.C. per many historians. What you may not have guessed is that it got its start in Northern Africa, during the Roman conquest of Egypt.
Original Name for Horchata
Originally called “hordeata”, and instead of a rice water based drink, it was made using barley.
Historical Refreshment and Medicinal Use
