What a difference a day (or two) makes. Our long wait for silvers appears to be ending. On Friday the 19th we saw a near limit of 22 silvers on Shearwater with Captain Jack Barnick. That was the highest score. The influx of silvers brought a huge sigh of relief for AU’s captains and a big shout of excitement for our guests. Adding to the fun, the king action broke wide open on Friday. The spotty pattern of kings confined to spot specific locations ended with kings seemingly everywhere in large numbers including a 40-pounder caught by Warren Konze about Petrel with Captain DJ Gross. AU guest Braden Jensen caught the second 40-pound king of the year on July 11 aboard Petrel with Captain DJ. It was the captain’s birthday. Nice present for the angler and the guide. The water temperature is in the normal range and we’ve been through a few tidal series ranging from weak to strong ..read more

Over the past week our guests enjoyed good weather except for one day with a bumpy but fishable NW wind. Halibut action, including several large GAF halibut ranging from 50 to 100 pounds, has provided lots of smiles. As always, rockfish make for fast fun. King fishing has been subpar and spotty of late – not what we typically see in midseason. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time. If you get over a school of kings the limits can come fast, but these magical moments don’t last long. A few missed bites, a wrong guess or two and the search for kings becomes an all-day affair ..read more

Captain Tom’s Fishing Report King fishing over the past two weeks has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. The number of kings seemed to be building as expected in mid-June only to hit a major hiccup for a couple of days around the 15th. The action then came roaring back for quick limits, but the fish were fairly confined to a few locations which led to fishing with a crowd. Still, the numbers were great and the action fast, until today when if you didn’t get them early and quick, the bite died. This season’s run has been excellent, but also hard to predict.  Our guests have enjoyed exc ..read more
