Business Clean-up Day!
Regen Australia Blog
by regenaustralia

As part of ‘Clean-up Australia Day,’ tomorrow February 28th is ‘Business Clean-up Day.’  The 2023 theme for this year’s Clean Up Australia Day is to: “Inspire and empower communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment.”  Here at Regen Australia, every day is clean-up day as our teams remove rubbish from our sites whenever possible during the course of other works. Rubbish we encounter mostly tends to be the kind that easily moves down stream to accumulate in our local waterways. We’re always amazed at what we find – but we can’t do it all on o ..read more

Nursery Plant of the Month: Alocasia brisbanensis
Regen Australia Blog
by regenaustralia
1y ago
The Alocasia brisbanensis commonly known as the Native Elephant Ear or Cunjevoi Lily is native to the Illawarra region of Australia just south of Sydney, and all the way up to far north Queensland. This beauty can be found growing as an understory plant along rainforest margins and in riparian areas along waterways. The Cunjevoi Lily plant can grow to 2M in height with the stem reaching up to 12cm in diameter. The leaves are glossy and thick with a vibrant deep green colour, and the size of the leaves is thought to be an adaptation to allow the plant to capture as much of the low-level ..read more

Time Out for Team Building!
Regen Australia Blog
by regenaustralia

Our teams at Regen work in tough conditions, often doing heavy manual work in the heat and humidity, so . . . a few times a year we like to get together and let our hair down. Recently we all hopped on a boat and took off to South Stradbroke Island for the day. The theme was ‘Maritime’ so we had everything from pirates to seaweed and everything in-between arrive on the boat! We had a great lunch at Tipplers Resort and an impromptu dance party on the return trip. We never knew we had such talented (?) dancers doing everything from Nutbush to YMCA, there was even a bit of Kpop thrown in (much to ..read more

Weed of the Month: Dioscorea bulbifera var. bulbifera
Regen Australia Blog

When most of us think of Valentine’s Day, we think of long-stemmed red Roses, pink Peonies, White Daisies, Red Tulips or Carnations, Sunflowers or quaint Forget-Me- Nots, we don’t normally think of weeds but there are weeds out there with flower-shaped leaves growing on suffocating vines which are anything but romantic, and know how to impose themselves on way up high into the upper canopies of the trees which make it very hard to ‘forget’ about them! More commonly known as the Aerial Yam or Air Potato (due to the fruits they bear), today we look at the effects of an exotic vine weed which can ..read more

Regen Australia Blog

We are so proud of our female field workers, no matter how tough the job, they don’t shy away from working in difficult weather conditions or terrain, and they certainly know their way around all sorts of equipment, from power tools to driving heavy machinery. So today we thought we’d celebrate two of our gals, Meghan and Marrion, who have been conquering some pretty tough conditions to liberate native trees and plants from some pretty challenging weeds and weed trees. First off we have Meghan on the ropes! In this photo Meghan is treating Cat’s Claw vine that is growing up trees that are situ ..read more

Protecting a Riparian Zone
Regen Australia Blog
by regenaustralia

The Regen Team has been busy undertaking a repair on an eroded hill within a riparian zone near a sports field. Heavy rains over the years have eroded this area, and a solution was urgently required to rectify the issue. Protection of riparian (waterways) is important for the protection of aquatic species, water plants, wildlife near the area and of course humans. Each have specific needs, aquatic life and wildlife could lose their habitats due to overgrown and impurities in the water quality. For humans, while water quality is also a concern, there is also the risk of the affects of flooding ..read more
