Hi all, Bought this gorgeous laptop with NVIDIA 4060, had to return 2 laptops, thankfully 3rd one is without issues, wasting 2 months in the process. Upgraded SSD to 2TB, clean installed Windows 11 for games, shrinked disk space to allocate 548GB for Linux. I tried to install F40 Workstation from the latest respin iso (it has kernel 6.8.7) and after a restart it does not boot. I did not do: Code: sudo dnf remove *nvidia* sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia wait 5 minutes restart and did not add edit grub configs or completed this System hangs on startup Now, has anyone installed F40 on a new Del ..read more

I started with Fedora sometime around the teen's? - through the 20's and 30's. Sometimes I burned a CD, but for the most part "dnf upgrade...". For the most part it's not been a problem. >However< this time ... I ran the upgrade which went smoothly until I logged in and found my window manger was Gnome. OK, I'll just tell it to switch back to KDE. That did not go well. It's almost like that there's something built in to FC40 to keep the upgrade from ever installing KDE. And I tried to get an answer the response was "Why would you want to use KDE?". I ended up burning a "spin" and in th ..read more

Open .jnlp file with OpenWebStart in Fedora 39 "TOOLBOX"

Hello, I am using Fedora 40. I have a toolbox with Fedora 39. In that toolbox I have installed OpenWebStart (https://openwebstart.com/). I verified with "dnf list installed": openwebstart.x86_64 1.9.0-2 @@commandline The purpose is to open a .jnlp file with this OpenWebStart. My challenges: 1. How to open/run OpenWebStart inside my toolbox? "ows" or "openwebstart" or "OpenWebStart" do not do anything. 2. I moved my .jnlp file in my "Home" dir (under /.local and "share"?), so I should be able to open that file within my toolbox (with OpenWebStart once I assign this package to my .jnlp fi ..read more

When I connect my phone to my USB port - it charges (that is all). Same if I connect my phone to my wife's USB port. When I connect my wife's phone to my USB port, it chare AND the files tool comes up and I see the Samsung-android file system name. - I cannot open it and do anything. When I connect my wife's phone to her computer, the phone asks if it should allow access and the files tool shows as above. After allowing access on the phone itself, I can see and work with the files. So I have to conclude that I need to install some software on both my computer AND my phone to make things wor ..read more

Time stamp - adding two hours for multiple files
Fedora Forum

This happened to a collection of jpg/tiff files, so I know that I can use XnView to change time stamp on image files. The issue was caused by the files had to be temporarily stored on a exfat device, and thus all time stamps was changed by -2 hours (the local time zone is GMT+1 + summer time that add another hour to the gmt time). The question - is there a way of batch converting file time stamp so that all file stamps ( are added by 2 hours? Steps doing this with bash script is most preferable ..read more

Under kernel 6.8.7 the drives connected to my LSI HBA aren't appearing. Reverting to 6.7.7 resolves the issue but I'm not sure where to start looking for the cause of the issue in 6.8.7. I don't see anything obvious in journalctl from the failed boot. Can anyone give me any pointers please ..read more

I recently dug up a windows tablet (Innovator V113) with Win 10 and tons of bloatware in it. After some thoughts on how to speed it up, I settled up on gutting it and going with Fedora for my first time. Installation and everything was smooth sailing but I ended up with my touch-screen (and now that I notice my speakers too) not working. What checks do I need to make and what info do I need to post in order to get some help? Thanks in advance ..read more

Migrate root filesystem to new drive / partition
Fedora Forum

Hello All, I need a quick bit of help. I've migrated my /root and /home directory off a BTRFS partition to and EXT4 partition, because, for some strange reason .. BTRFS always fail! .. However, now that the EXT4 has the /home and /root directory, it won't boot. I have updated grub2.conf and fstab to use the new drive UUID, but I can't figure out how to update the initramfs, since ... the OS in the /root directory is 6.8.4-100.fc38.x86_64 and the LiveCD I have is using 6.2.9-300.fc38.x86_64. ===== I don't understand the directions as listed in this document https://linuxconfig.org/how-to ..read more
