The Cornish Place Blog

The Muddy Stilettos Awards are the most coveted awards for small independent lifestyle businesses across the country. It may not be the Oscars, but for a small business that has only been open for 3 years, with stops and starts for lockdowns, this is kind of a big deal! Thank you to each and every one of of you that took the time to vote.  And for those that sent us amazing personal messages that keep us going through the tough times.  We really love our guests, it's you that makes all this hard work worthwhile. The Muddy Cornwall Awards at the Duchy Nursery. Last Thursday evening ..read more

Local Food Festivals

I’m always banging on about how wonderful our local food producers are and how lucky we are not to have to depend on supermarkets. Now it’s time to focus on those people who really bring this local produce alive - the amazing chefs of Cornwall! We are in a fantastic location here to visit the brilliant restaurants from Falmouth to St Ives to Padstow, but for a bit more fun come on down to the local Cornish food festivals. All are free to attend, although there are some ticketed events too. 21 - 23 April 2023 Porthleven Food Festival Porthleven is a bit of a hidden gem… not as well known as S ..read more

Have a wedding or a big birthday to celebrate? Or just a good old family holiday with all the generations? The beauty of our 4 cottages is that everyone can have their own space, but that it’s easy to come together to make those special memories. Small Weddings Image Lyra & Moth Not everyone wants a massive wedding. And in the current economic climate, having just the people you really care about at your wedding is becoming more and more of a thing! We’ve had some beautiful weddings here, all truly meaningful, and all giving me a lump in my throat or a tear in my eye! We can sleep up to 1 ..read more

Dog Friendly Cornwall
The Cornish Place Blog

We had a visit from a photographer from Paws and Stay last week, and as we are now registered with them I thought it would be a good opportunity for a bit of a blog about visiting The Cornish Place with dogs. We welcome ‘welll-behaved’ dogs in all of our cottages - a definition which is obviously open to interpretation. If your dog is not a fan of other dogs then maybe best to leave them behind for your own relaxation, but as long as they are on a lead in all communal areas except the dog walking field, we would love to meet them! Dogs should not be left on their own in the cottages for their ..read more

Real Weddings At The Cornish Place

It feels like we’ve been planning weddings here for a long time. Andi had a wedding cake company in our previous life, and we always knew that The Cornish Place would be perfect for small, bespoke and elopement weddings - nothing conveyor belt-ish here! We started between the lockdowns with a few photoshoots, just to get a flavour of what might work here. Phoebe from Piccolo weddings had so much enthusiasm for what we have created here, and styled three very different shoots just perfectly. We took our first wedding bookings from April 2021, when we knew the new cottage would be completed and ..read more

A Day Out On The Roseland Peninsula
The Cornish Place Blog

We love Cornwall. But sometimes weeks go by when we’ve been so busy with guests and the farm that we realise we haven’t had a proper day out! Andi’s parents have been visiting this weekend, which was a great excuse to become day trippers! Caerhays Castle on the Roseland Years ago, our farm would have been part of the Williams family’s Burncoose estate, which is now part of the Caerhays Estate. The Williams family made their fortune mining tin and copper when Gwennap was the known as ‘the richest square mile in the Old World’. When Caerhays Castle was put up for sale in 1855, they snapped it u ..read more

The Dairy Shed Through The Eyes Of A VIP Guest!

Ever since moving to Cornwall 3 years ago (almost to the day!) we’ve tried hard to find the very best in local producers and shops… not just for our own purchases, but for the cottages and to recommend to guests. After all, that’s part of what Cornwall’s good at! Once we had decided to move here, I became mildly obsessed with finding the best in Cornish instagram accounts, as well as inspiration for what to do with the various different houses I thought we might buy (we made offers on 6 houses along the way - just typing that sends shivers down my spine!!). This is when I discovered Alice Coll ..read more

Supporting A Local Charity - The Wave Project
The Cornish Place Blog

We are so excited about our partnership with the Wave Project! In September 2010, a group of 20 young people sat on the beach at Watergate Bay, Cornwall, for a surfing lesson. They had all been diagnosed with mental health disorders, ranging from mild to severe. Some participants had been self-harming, others experienced severe anxiety, low mood or depression. One participant was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Yet to watch them on the beach, none of this was visible.  The results of self-evaluation showed that wellbeing rose among the group overall, with participants feeling calmer, less ..read more

In the middle of nowhere but not far from anything!

Places of interest within 20 minutes or so, click to zoom….. Bit late to the blog this week! With only 4 weeks until our first guests arrive (we do have a selection of guinea pigs in the meantime!) there is a lot to finish off. Painting picnic tables in the sun seemed a better idea than sitting in front of a computer, but I got here in the end. The Cornish Place is situated in the skinny bit of Cornwall, between Truro and Falmouth. Of course many people come to Cornwall for the sea and the beaches (the coastline is 422 miles long so that’s a LOT of beach!) but there is so much more to do. Wit ..read more
