Rainy Rambles: Uncovering Why Walking in the Rain is Good Fun. (Promise!)

There's something magical about rain, isn't there? The pitter-patter of droplets against the ground, the earthy scent that fills the air, and the way everything seems to glisten with a fresh sheen. While many people might choose to stay indoors when the heavens open up, there's a unique joy to be found in stepping out and taking a stroll in the rain. Here in Cornwall, I have woken up each morning hoping for a brighter day. And although we've had a handful of sunny and dry days since the start of 2024, predominantly the weather has been more on the mizzlier side. Rather than be miserable and s ..read more

Gwennap Pit to Carn Marth

It may have been blowing a hooley at the weekend, but we still managed a gorgeous (and dry!) 3-mile ramble where I took 24 wonderful people around Gwennap Pit and Carn Marth. Using the iWalkCornwall route, I took the group via Gwennap Pit, up to the quarry of Carn Marth, where we took in the 360° views and let the dogs have a swim before heading our way back down the rocky lanes and to the cars. Carn Marth and Gwennap Pit hold a special place in my heart, nestled within the breath-taking landscapes of Cornwall; Carn Marth, with its ancient granite outcrop standing majestically against the sk ..read more

Productively Unproductive
Cornish Ramblings Blog

My mental health has taken a little dip of late, various things that have chipped away leaving me feeling a little less Jody than normal. This weekend just gone has been a fairly low key one. Making sure my home is tidy, catching up with life admin, mainly cuddling Purdy, and having some much needed rest. I find it hard to rest, like I’m being unproductive if I’m not filling my weekends with a thousand tasks and people. But honestly, resting is something our bodies and minds need in order to feel revitalised and slowing down is just as productive as ticking several items off a to do list. “Re ..read more

Sennen, Lands End and Nanjizal Ramble

Swoooooon! My face literally ached for hours after this ramble finished thanks to the amount of grinning I’d been doing throughout this incredible 6-mile ramble from Sennen to Nanjizal via Lands End - using the fabulous iWalkCornwall route of course - where I took 23 ramblers for a walk. Starting at the harbour car park in Sennen with typically Cornish drizzle and a splash of rainbow, we made our way up the long and steep coast path towards the lookout, where we stopped for a breather and to marvel at the views, until carrying on and eventually, reaching Lands End where we were greeted with ..read more

Making Maenporth Memories

Maenporth (Cornish: Meyn Borth, meaning stones cove) is a cove and beach in west Cornwall, situated approximately two miles from Falmouth on the estuary of the River Fal. This delightful cove faces east across Falmouth Bay with views towards Pendennis Castle and the lighthouse on St Anthony Head. It is one of my favourite places for sea swimming - when the waves aren't too dumpy - and because it is mostly sandy, it is a lovely little spot for sitting and watching the world go by. It is also a wonderful place for the young ones as when the tide is out, there is plenty of sand to play in and a ..read more

Rambling into 2024

As we rambled our way out of 2023 and into 2024, one thing I know I will look back on with nothing but absolute love and joy, are the adventures we’ve shared together on foot across Cornwall. A new year can have different meanings for us all. Personally, I like to reflect on the ups and downs and take pride in what I’ve achieved, admiration of what I’ve survived, and fulfilment in the times shared with loved ones. It’s not all been smooth sailing, but this is where I’ve truly found who I am; where I’ve taught myself resilience, compassion, and most importantly, kindness. I see it as a contin ..read more

“Bringing people together is what I call ‘ubuntu,’ which means ‘I am because we are.’ Far too often people think of themselves as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.” Desmond Tutu It's been a hot minute since I introduced myself and with having a wonderful increase in subscribers (hello!) recently, I thought I would reintroduce you all to my little walking group, Cornish Ramblings. Do you know Cornish Ramblings is a walking group? If you are here acci ..read more

Enchanting, fresh, glistening, crisp, crunchy, squelchy, bright, clear… Just some of the words that came to mind on yesterday’s ramble from Wadebridge to St Breock with my wonderful ramblers. There were also plenty of giggles, a ton of chitchat, new friendships, familiar catch ups, shared moments, and happy memories made on our 5.5-mile walk around the Cornish countryside. As far as rambles go, this one was pretty wonderful. A whopping 32 of us headed to Wadebridge for a glorious 5.5-mile ramble to St Breock, and it was pretty flipping fabulous. Using the iWalk Cornwall route, we started alo ..read more
