Kate Choyce, Managing Director and Founder of HR Tech & HKHR Recruitment based in Hong Kong, believes, “ChatGPT is an ally rather than a foe. It is imperative for HR leaders to realize the significance of employing such tools to elevate employee productivity, optimize efficiency, and empower them to concentrate on more critical tasks that require human insight and sensitivity.”
According to a recent survey conducted by Monster, almost half of the workers surveyed have used ChatGPT or other AI generators for work. While half of them used it for basic tasks like writing emails or scheduling ..read more

After graduating high school, I did what every teenager did. I threw my textbooks in the shredder, and went immediately to a night club. I was possessed by the sense of carelessness and the desire for debauchery. However, believe it or not, even this can become boring. A few months into the gap year, this desire was worn out. One day, my friend Dennis told me about an opportunity to make some quick money. He found a job on Hong Kong Teen Part Time that entailed running a few errands for Kate’s startup, HR Tech International.
I was intrigued when I first saw the #hrPOD. It has a egg-like ..read more

THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
With the Hong Kong Government asking all the population to reduce their interactions with others and impose strict limits on any sort of gathering this raises interesting dilemmas around interviewing, particularly the process of first round interviews.
As business owners, managers, and senior HR staff we all need to employ staff and the first part of that process is to interview potential candidates. Video interviewing is rapidly becoming the norm in HR [1]. It improves the efficiency of the hiring process by reducing time spent on all sorts of administration required for in-person interviews. Pre-recorded interviewing makes even greater increases to this efficiency, nullifying scheduling conflicts and allowing the candidate to interview at any time. But a pre-recorded interview is so much different than a face-to-face one, surely there are impacts associated with it.
Indeed, there is some research to suggest that interviewer bias increases with pre-recorded video, as there is no opportun ..read more

In recent years, talent acquisition has undergone a sea change. Finding the best candidate for a particular job vacancy no longer means studying hundreds of resumes in the hope that you chance upon one that meets all your requirements.
New recruitment technology allows you to virtually view tens of thousands of resumes in an instant. The HR department no longer needs to spend time on routine, non-productive tasks. Automated systems can help with interview scheduling, and recruitment chatbots can handle routine queries from candidates.
The automation of many of the activities associated with r ..read more

The port city of Hong Kong has always been a global business hub. Known as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, it is one of the world’s biggest financial centres and home to around 2,000 start-ups.
Government support plays a key role in the city’s startup ecosystem. For example, in 2014 the government’s Cyberport Incubation Program incubated a unicorn (a billion dollar startup) in sharing economy startup GoGoVan. The program provides incubatees over US$40,000 (or HK$330,000) of support over 24 months, as well as other business and professional services. It also has offices in Shanghai and Gu ..read more

The idea of playing computer games to land a job is something that sounds like it came straight out of a high-school student’s journal of unrealistic expectations about adult life, but increasingly companies are using gaming technology to test candidates’ abilities to engage with their work.
It’s not just a cheap stunt employed by start-up companies looking for attention either. Tech giant Google has invited talent to compete in its Google Code Jam competition for a decade, while the British intelligence service has also used games in its application processes for would-be spies.
The idea is ..read more
