Eyes brimming with tears watched the open courtyard at the Royal Albert Hall fill with audiences from across the city and the UK, young and old, families and friends, and passers-by. The city stilled as the athaan (call to prayer) rang through South Kensington from the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Steps. On these same steps, hundreds gathered in prayer, on the 12th night of Ramadan.
Rewinding an hour or so, the empty courtyard was dotted with our dedicated volunteers in teal t-shirts as they set up outside the London landmark for the first time in Open Iftar history. Duct-taping down sh ..read more

Our partners at Algbra have teamed up with RTP Open Iftar to share insights about finance and financial wellbeing during Ramadan.
Algbra Guest Blog: Abdul-Kader Thomas
Imam Al Ghazali ranked wealth as the lowest of his five objectives, maqasid al Shariah. The importance of wealth spans its benefits, its tests, and its stewardship. Ramadan has arrived bringing us that great sustained moment of mindfulness, and the wealth that we have been given in trust plays a role in our remembrance of the real Sustainer (Al Qayyum).
Fasting brings us that moment when those of us living in comfort briefly enc ..read more

We have reached the end once more; as we bid farewell to the holiest month let us remember that the Lord of Ramadan is the Lord of every month in the calendar, and Ramadan coming to an end does not mark the end of our intentions, actions and worship.
A key lesson behind the beauty of this month is that the spirit of Ramadan shines within every single one of us. On the first day of Ramadan, we did not wake up completely different people, and on the morning of Eid we did not wake up much different either.
We are the diamonds, Ramadan only polishes the mind, body, and soul to shine bright like on ..read more

Since its inception in 2013, Ramadan Tent Project (RTP) has fed over 150, 000 people. In the first ten days of Ramadan 2022 alone, we have fed over 20, 000 people across three cities; a simple idea to feed others has flourished into the UK’s award-winning largest community and cultural event in Ramadan.
Having spent the last two years online, it has been an honour to have had a warm welcome to our return of in person Open Iftar events – each of our evenings are filled with our community, old and new. Every day of Ramadan, for the past nine years, we ask our audiences to raise their hands if th ..read more

Bismillah Al Rahman Al Rahim
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
We start our actions with pure intentions, by taking the name of God and therein we remind ourselves of His traits as merciful, gracious and compassionate. We begin the Qur’an by proclaiming God’s mercy, not just with the basmala, but again in verse three of Al Fatiha “the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful” [Qur’an 1:3]. In the beginning of Ramadan, we fast through the ten days of mercy, and are encouraged to pray for God’s forgiveness and mercy, “My Lord, forgive and have Mercy, and You are the Most ..read more

When attending Ramadan Tent Project’s most recent event “Faith & Fasting,” which celebrates Yom Kippur and the Thursday Sunnah Fast – something Imam Qari Asim said really stuck with me. He mentions how we have more in common with the Jewish faith than that which divides us.
Both faiths, Islam and Judaism, follow the teachings of Prophet Abraham very closely. Islam incorporates Jewish history as part of its own.
Historically, many of the Prophets followed by both faiths also resided in the city of Jerusalem. Both Islam and Judaism consider Jerusalem to be a holy city. The Prophe ..read more

One of my favourite things about Ramadan is the proximity I feel with Muslims worldwide. Maybe this is what draws me to the tent year after year; the Open Iftar Tent itself is an embodiment of community spirit, social belonging and unity that is brought out through this holy month. But the beauty of Ramadan is truly outstanding, numerous and universal. For a full month, the Muslim ummah is in sync; we sit making du’a in the moments before the Maghreb adhan, we break our fast as the muadhin calls, and we await the highly-anticipated plate of watermelon.
Whether you pick out the seeds before you ..read more
