Our safety training services really work well! Largely due to customer requirements, I am able to certify small to midsize cranes while also being able to train the operators on the same unit, that day. Through great teamwork at Crane Tech and great communication with our customers we are able to accomplish this. Our sales team responds to customer inquiries by asking the right questions and getting to know everything about your equipment before the date of your Safety Inspection or Safety Training. This means that your crane will certify on the day of safety training because of great scheduli ..read more

How To Set Limit Switches On A Crane
Crane Tech Services Blog

An electrician called us the other day asking for advice about how to set limit switches on a crane. My reply was that this is something to be done by the Crane Tech experts. Brands such as R&M and Stahl have rotary limit switches, which have 4 settings. S1, S2, S3 and S4. Setting the upper and lower limit of a crane takes patience. I have often noticed that electricians will override the S2 or S3 values and only set an upper and lower limit, but the idea is to slow the load down by at least a 3 second count. Slowing the load down is important to soften up loading on everything – mechanica ..read more

The Importance of Battery Maintenance

Unexpected cold weather brings on challenges for the batteries of the Scissor Lift or Zoom Boom that you rely on each day, which brings the importance of battery maintenance to the forefront. Scissor lifts and Zoom Booms use lead acid due to cost and good performance. It also weighs more and helps balance the machine. Cleaning the terminals the terminals is very important. Apply a dielectric grease or spray, Vaseline, or even a light grease or oil spray can work. The electrolyte (acid) produced is the charge we all need. When levels are low plates are vulnerable to corrosion, batteries heat up ..read more

Recently our crane safety program was submitted as a hazard assessment example to the Ministry Of Labour (MOL). By proving that one of our long standing customers in the Barrie area and Crane Tech went above and beyond to train workers. This company received a healthy discount on worker compensation fees because of the work we did with their safety program. We create custom safety programs for companies. We assess the safety needs of the team, including their crane safety, their pre-shift rigging equipment inspections and their ability to assess workplace hazards. This is by far the best safet ..read more

Forging Means Safety

Forging means safety for us. A forging is defined as a steel component that is hot worked into a desired shape. In the crane business that means safety in lifting. The metallic structure of a forging has desired features. The lines of the steel follow the desired profile. The metal is “pounded” and not prone to being porous like a casting. One of the desired mechanical properties of the forging is that the metal will bend and not immediately snap when overloaded. So your lifting hooks and shackles and hardware for lifting are forged. The idea is that should the lifting hardware become overload ..read more

In this blog I talk about the many types of cranes that are mounted to trucks. These units are used for transporting building materials and lumber. I also want to talk about other types of machines and equipment you can find on construction sites, especially here in the Toronto General Area (GTA). Drywall booms are used for lifting lumber and drywall from truck deck to worksite. They have a set of forks that rotate and tilt. Many of these booms will lift several stories high. Often these cranes are used to lift shingles onto roofs too, you might have seen some in the Barrie area with all the n ..read more

Let’s talk today about the common types of industrial cranes. There are so many kinds of industrial cranes. Here are some common types that we at crane tech inspect on a daily basis. The bridge crane. This type of crane travels on a set of steel runways. It is motorized in all directions so that the operator can lift loads not exceeding the capacity of the bridge crane. The most common capacity is 5 Tons. The jib crane. This crane can be defined as an arm that rotates to reach a work station area. Most jibs are manually pushed and electrical lift assisted. A common capacity is 1 Ton. The monor ..read more
