Hello All, I am very new to the group and have not had my surgery yet but am scheduled for June 13th and I am excited to start losing weight exponentially even though I already have while on weight loss meds and starting a gym regimen while in the pre-op stages. My question for you all is if anyone traveled abroad within their first year post op? I am planning on going to Peru in Dec-Jan for two weeks and while I realize I will still have minimal portion sizes I feel I can make it work due to the wide variety of delicious/nutritious foods in the region that dont necessarily have to be carb-loa ..read more

Hi Me again! So I am noticing that I am losing 1.5-2lbs a week last couple of weeks, I had surgery 1/24 for Gastric Sleeve so I am 14 weeks post op. I have lost a lot of weight fast in the beginning so I am assuming that's why its slowing down? I am incorporating a lot of exercise now including weights so maybe that's why too? I am trying to get into the mind set that I am focusing on how I feel and not so much what the scale says. Just want to make sure this is normal? Weight when I entered the bariatric program: 297lbs Surgery Day Weight: 266lbs CW: 205lbs GW: 170lbs ..read more

Hi! First off, I'm fairly new here, so if I'm posting in the wrong place, I apologize in advance. Also, VENT WARNING: I'm scheduled to have surgery August 5th and I'm extremely excited! The only thing is, I've been thinking a lot about how much my life is going to change after surgery, especially when it comes to my relationship with food and family. I know mostly everyone here has their own battles with food, but mines start with my culture. To give you a better picture, I grew up in a Peruvian household and still live in one. I also grew up with a lot of other Latinos and Latin food has alwa ..read more

Advice Needed: Reflux After Sleeve

I had the sleeve done in August 2023 and have lost 75% of the excess weight. Approximately 2 weeks after surgery, I developed reflux. I did not have reflux prior to the surgery. I do not feel burning in the chest, but I do have a sore throat and saliva in the back of my throat most of the time. I have been on various combinations and dosages (taking them once a day and twice a day) of Prilosec, Nexium, Protonix, and Pepcid, but nothing seems to help. I have had two endoscopies: November 2023 - which was performed by a GI doctor that found gastritis and a small hiatal hernia. February 2024 ..read more

Slow Loser - Anyone else?

Meowdy, friends! ? I had VSG on 11/22/23 (the day before Thanksgiving here in the USA ?, almost 5 months ago), and I have not been a very fast loser. While some people may have dropped 20 lbs in each of the first two months post-op, I'm just at almost 40 lbs down since surgery. My Physician's Assistant (we don't meet with the surgeon at all post-op in our program) said I'm definitely a "slow loser" and am about 12 lbs higher than they'd expect me to be right now. Anyone else out there only losing about 1-2 lbs per week? Anyone who was in this situation and managed to kick things up a notch? An ..read more

When were you able to start eating raw vegetables? I’m only six weeks VSG PO so I know I have awhile to wait but don’t see an approximate timeline in my program materials so wondered. I had a couple of tiny slivers of peeled cucumber today (chewed to nothing) and they tasted SO GOOD! I have a follow-up in two weeks, so will ask then, just curious about others experience ..read more

I had the sleeve surgery on Monday April 8th. I was kept in ICU for 3 extra days due to heart rate dropping and oxygen dropping. I haven't had a bowel movement since last Saturday even with laxatives. And immediately after surgery I couldn't breathe and was on oxygen. When I left the hospital it was at 91%. My chest hurts bad and I'm using my spirometer and my nebulizer treatments. The surgeon moved my post op appt to Monday but don't seem to concerned. But the cough makes the pain worse and I can't lay down because I can't breathe. Any tips or help please ..read more
