What seems to be the general consensus on vision grills? I’m wanting a kamado grill and thought about getting the Akron but decided to go ceramic as I’ve seen they are better for longer low temp cooks. Sam’s club has a decent price. Also, has anyone heard of Monolith grills? There is a decent used one near me for a really good price but I’m iffy on buying used. submitted by /u/lbrooks75 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Question about Primo XL stand options...

Hello everyone I am looking at a Primo XL400. I have a KJr which is fine for two of us but now that I am fully enjoying/getting good at Kamado-style cooking there are occasions when I need a larger one (summer parties etc) . I'm intrigued by Primo's oval shape so I may go down that road. I have a question about stands for a grill this large. It's a much longer story as to why but the kamado location in my backyard won't have a table. I could buy their square cart base (no need for side wings) but that's $425 and I don't need a cart with wheels. Pretty much I plop it down and it's staying ther ..read more

Weird question for cleaning

Hi all, Bit of a weird one, but curious, has anyone used firewood to clean their kamado (I have a primo)? We just finished a home renovation and I finally have my BBQ back but it needs a thorough clean as well as as well as some new gaskets. Each spring I normally do a burn using lump wood to get rid of winter muck and after the works it definitely needs it. The hardware store has discounts on regular firewood right now, so was thinking about using that for my spring burn. Wouldnt use for cooking but wasn’t sure if the smoke would get too absorbed into the ceramic / if it would burn too hot ..read more

I have a chargriller auto kamado and the top vent damper got stuck so often I broke the tab to open it. Chargriller is sold out of a replacement damper and I was wondering if there was any higher quality replacements that’ll fit submitted by /u/AndTheDevilMakes3ree [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Imperial Kamado restored!

Following up from my post a couple weeks back, I've finished restoring the Imperial Kamado No. 5 I inherited from my grandparents. Things I've fixed up: Repainted the outside surface with high temp resistant spray paint. Cleaned the rust off all metal parts and repainted them with the same high temp paint. Replaced all the nuts, bolts and washers with stainless steel ones. Added a Lavalock Nomex gasket. Painted the text on the dome as best I could. I can read the katakana near the bottom but I can't make out what the kanji says, can't find much info online either, my guess is a makers mark. I ..read more

Following up from previous post last week about my inherited Imperial Kamado, I fired it up for dinner last night and worked a bloody treat! Leg of lamb with a simple rub made up of: Olive oil Fresh garlic Pepper Rosemary from the garden Little bit of butter One side got burnt a lot but the meat inside was super juicy and tender, lots to learn still but it turned out much better than I thought it would for a first time cook. submitted by /u/Wattage2308 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

First time kamado recommendations

I’m looking to buy my first kamado and I’m conflicted on which route to go. I was thinking a large Primo due to shape and having a local dealer. But I also have a BGE dealer, and multiple kamado joe dealers. I know BGE is the safest choice but I like the shape and abilities of the Primo. Kamado Joe seems to have developed some customer service issues so I’m weary there. Budget isn’t that big of an issue but would like to stay under $1500 for a kit. Just looking for suggestions and personal experiences. Thanks! submitted by /u/JJ1650 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Inherited this Imperial Kamado No. 5 from my grandparents. Spent the last few weekends fixing it up, cleaned the inside and outside, took off the bands and cleaned most of the rust and old paint off them. I've got it to a stage now where I can light a fire in it and get it up to temperature, seems to hold the temp and hasn't got any cracks on the inside or on the firebox. My grandparents bought it in the early 80's and it's just sat in the back of the garage for the last few decades. I'll post more photos later when I've painted it but it looks like it's going work out great. submitted by /u ..read more
