Hey LegallyUn, Many law school admission deans have gone on the record as saying military service is a desirable trait in applicants. Military experience helps create a diverse student body and can speak to an applicant's work ethic and committment to public service. I personally am a veteran and heavily relied on my active duty experiences for many of my application materials; I feel this only strengthened my application. I recommend checking out the Service 2 School organization when you reapply; the program sets you up with a veteran mentor who can assist in translating your military expe ..read more

During this admissions season, I went through a period of self-reflection and decided to pursue reenlistment in the military, specifically joining the Army National Guard. I'm considering taking a year to complete my training and then reapplying to law schools next year. Do you think being an active reservist could be seen as a negative by admissions committees? I previously posted this in the wrong section. Statistics: Posted by LegallyUnProficient — Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:08 pm ..read more

Hello, I really need advice here. I want to apply to law schools this cycle, my top choice is Cornell Law as that's where I went for undergrad (Bachelor's in Philosophy). My major GPA is 3.97 but overall GPA is 3.08 (I explain this in an addendum). My LSAT scores are: Aug. 2023: 167 Oct. 2023: 169 Jan. 2024: 165 I'm incredibly upset about the latest score. I was getting 175+ on practice tests. I want to know if I should cancel it. How do schools view a score cancellation? Will a 165 hurt me less than a cancellation does? Thank you! Hello ndd429, Thank you for the post, and I am sorry to ..read more

I believe that applying with the 169 will get you in but not with a significant scholarship. I will leave it for the experts to answer this. Statistics: Posted by hwall05 — Wed Jan 31, 2024 3:52 pm ..read more

Hello, I am in a little bit of a conundrum and I am debating on what my the best move would be. I was supposed to take the LSAT back in October, but due to difficulties securing all the testing accommodations that i required, my exam was postponed to November. I figured this would be alright, since I would still be able to submit completed applications to law school by Christmas. So I took the exam for my first time in November and I received a pretty low score. I of course ended up canceling that score. At this point, I decided to take the exam again in January (I took it on 1/12/24). I fi ..read more

Hello I am over the age of 50 and have been in corporate America for over 20 years. I received my undergraduate (3.7 GPA) and MBA (3.8 GPA) in the last two years. I would like to attend law school and start my own firm. What are the chances of my being accepted at my age and what LSAT score should I be striving for to ensure I am accepted? I know the highest score possible but let's say I score a 158 (that is what I am trending right now), do I have a chance in being accepted? Your chances of admission are good! You're what's called a Nontrad (nontraditional) student, and nontrads can be very ..read more

Hi lsatstudent2! If your question is whether sending a LOCI a week after being waitlisted is too late, I would definitely say that's not too late. It's not a bad idea to send one shortly after like that. You can also send another at some later point if you haven't heard back. In terms of a LOCI being "too late," that's really only if the school has already filled up all of its available seats. If there are still open spots and you're on the waitlist, then it's not too late. As Dave notes above, there are steps you can take in the mean time, like visiting a school. If that's easy and inexpen ..read more
