Terra cotta v/s plastic pots

I have repotted a lot of my plant babies from the plastic pots where I was rooting them into permanent unglazed terra cotta pots and have noticed that the potting mix seems to dry out so much quicker in terra cotta pots, whereas in plastic soil stays damp and stodgy pretty much forever. This makes me worry about the plants left in plastic pots, as it seems that even though I'm using the same potting mix, the microclimate in plastic pots might not be the best, also the soil on top of plastic... Hi everyone, I got this plant at a grocery store and it was only labelled as an 'assorted plant'. I have no idea what it is or how to care for it. Does anyone recognize it? Would greatly appreciate your help. P.S. It's started turning a little brown at some of the tips or just losing its dark green colouration since I got it. I've kept it in indirect sunlight and given it a small amount of water since I got it a week ago. Thank you ..read more

Hi everyone, My gf has had a Hoya Kerrii plant for about a year I got her as a gift. In the last few days it's started turning brown unexpectedly. It hasn't been moved or any conditions changed. There used to be a twin plant that turned brown and died within days last year... it was moved every so slightly one day and died. It would be lovely to save this plant as I got it as a gift for my gf while I'm away. Any ideas on what we can try to save it? More water, less sunlight, etc. Or do... We need two houseplants. One tall (3 ft. and the other plant stand size, about 12" to 14"). We have a cat, so we need something that is not toxic to pets. She is well behaved, and probably wouldn't nosh on a indoor plant, but we just don't want to take any chances. We are not picky as to foliage, nor to color. I have so little experience with houseplants that I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thank heavens for a source I can go to and rely on ..read more

I didn't see a specific carnivorous forum to post this in, so hopefully Houseplants is okay. If there's any carnivorous plant experts or enthusiasts out there, I could really use your help! My step-daughter bought a Cape Sundew plant about a month ago online from Amazon. I kinda wish she wouldn't have until I/we had the chance to do more research on the plant's needs, but she was excited and an impulsive teenager. I've been doing the best I can to help care for this plant, but I'm certain I... Carnivorous Plant Help (Cape Sundew ..read more

Damaged Dracaena Compacta Question

The other day I rescued this plant from a Lowes. Some leaves have severe brown tips as you can see, and other leaves are browned completely. He's already been repotted with fresh soil. Considering I don't always trust the random advice found on Google, I want to ask: 1. I should definitely remove the full brown leaves, right? 2. I read it's best to cut off the brown tips. If so, I also read to leave just a sliver of brown when cutting, as to not cut into the healthy part of the leaf. I... Damaged Dracaena Compacta Question ..read more
