My experience with Greenhouses

My experience with Greenhouses has been nothing less than great. Even a lower shelf GH that proved less than desirable. I didn’t know if I needed or wanted a GH but an opportunity came up in the mid 1970s to get many used church basement windows free including delivery. The frames were made of steel and had matching holes on all 4 sides for mounting. I used the windows as they were without any additional frame work on the walls. The only framework was a steel angle for the peak of the roof.... My experience with Greenhouses ..read more

Down one side variety is shirley on the other side i plant 1 cumber plant. the tomatoes have done really well. but the cucumber has only produced about three cucumbers. the leaves turn a creamy colour the rest of cucumbers just shrivel up and die. both plants grown in same way plus the same compost. The Whitehouse

It was time to whitewash the greenhouse a few days ago. Instead of just smearing the paint on, we made designs to keep out some of the sun. In years past we discovered that we had to remove some of the paint to let more light in, actually. This year we did it diffrently, taking a cue from our artistic neighbour-lady. We can’t really call it a greenhouse now, can we? Maybe a whitehouse then? View attachment 24024 ..read more

Advice on where to buy a greenhouse?

Hi there! I'm brand new to the forums, so please forgive me if I say/do something stupid. My wife and I are looking for an affordable building for our backyard... I've shopped around a little bit already, looking at the usual suspects like Home Depot and Amazon. But I was wondering if anyone else in the (northwest) US has any advice or tips on where and what to buy. We're looking for a greenhouse that can double as an artist studio, as our green thumbs could use a little work. ... Advice on where to buy a greenhouse ..read more

We built a greenhouse here several years ago by following instructions from a book about greenhouses and how to build one. It is attached to the south side of our house. The east wall is made from treated 2x4s, plywood and covered on the outside with siding. The whole south wall is made from treated 2x4s and glass panels from sliding glass doors. The west wall has one glass panel and the rest is like the east wall plus a mostly glass walk in door. We used pvc corragated clear panels for the... Greenhouse Roofing Question ..read more
