I’m not sure if this is the best sub-forum for this as it’s a building question. I plan to put down a 6” deep concrete footing followed by two courses of bricks to support a 10 by 6 foot greenhouse. Note, this goes round the edge, the soil inside will remain for planting. My neighbour did this, and it’s fine after 20 years. does anyone know if I could use 2” hardcore followed by 4” concrete for the footing instead? It would make mixing concrete easier ..read more

I will get a 10 by 6 foot aluminium and toughened glass greenhouse which I will put on a brick base. I will be growing in the soil inside the GH. Here is a drawing of my garden layout: I do not want to remove trees or fruit bushes. I have two proposed greenhouse locations, GH 1 and GH 2. GH 1: This has the advantage that it is near the house and not in a cold hollow. It has the disadvantage that it is exposed to wind (our area is windy), and it is on poor soil. GH2: This... I thought I would be smart and take a bunch out of the Greenhouse. Peace Lillies and Ferns hate it the ones in the Greenhouse are doing far better even though it gets warm. Plus water more with warmer temperatures. Long soaking water. I moved stuff where it would be shadyer so I'm thinking wait and see. big rockpile ..read more

I’m looking for a new greenhouse, maybe 8 by 6, with toughened glass, which I will put on a brick base. It looks like Vitavia and Halls Popular are the same. Then there is the Simplicity Classic. The Halls is much cheaper. Does anyone have feedback on the quality of Halls and Simplicity? Hallsgreenhouses.co.uk has appalling reviews, Hallsgreenhouses.com has excellent reviews !! They are the same company too. Simplicity has excellent reviews. They use slightly different glazing seals and... Read more ..read more

All Winter I've been using smaller Fans just to push the air around I was thinking the Big Fans were just too much. Got the Big Fans on and they are moving the plants around Big Time. What I'm wondering is can I use the Big Fans in the Winter. I'm thinking with them going it will help with Insects with the plants moving? big rockpile ..read more

I was checking out another Grower. He is mainly selling in Nursery Pots. I'm thinking I'm messing up mostly using nice Pots. I have a bunch 4 and 6 inch Pots but I also have nice Pots use just a few nice Pots? And I have Spider Plants in Hanging Baskets just letting them go. But all the ones I've seen are small. big rockpile ..read more
