Ran away from foster care

I (17f) have been in a foster home for almost 10 months. My (technically) foster parents, that I call my mom and dad are amazing. They have been very kind, supportive and forgiving. I have a great relationship with them and couldn’t have ended up in a better place. Yesterday we found out that I’m unable to get guardianship (been trying for 6-7 months) because I’m now too old. They were up in the air with doing caregiver affidavit, but there were some issues with my bio parents and were unable to do that. I freaked out and ran away to Providence, RI. We live in Massachusetts close to NH. I don ..read more

My husband and I are starting to look into fostering to adopt. We have two bio sons both under 2 years old, I’m a SAHM, my husband works remotely with a great salary. We’re interested in adopting a sibling set next year when our youngest is >1.5. We recognize there will be trauma to overcome for the foster children however what effects should we anticipate for our current children? We’re at the very beginning of this process and trying to gather as much information as we can, especially anecdotal from foster parents/children. Is it uncommon to adopt from foster care when someone already ha ..read more

If a graduated 17 year old with 5 months until he ages out were to run away how hard would the police search? and if his mom had a warrant and was a felon would they search her house? would anything happen when he turned 18? (his foster mom is shutting her foster home down soon and his other options were likely group homes.) submitted by /u/randomperson101000 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My son has a friend who is in college and still in foster care. She will turn 21 in July and would like to move out. Are there any programs that would help her find her own rental or help purchase a condo. STATE OF Connecticut. She says she can remain in foster care until 23 or finishes community college. submitted by /u/LeaveLongjumping9166 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Question about a kiddo moving to kinship in Florida on ICPC

Basically my foster kids (we are located in Ohio) may move to kinship in Florida on ICPC. The aunt in Florida has not been given a lot of information on the types of supports she would receive. I'm wondering if my kids level of care/per diem rate would affect the amount of support she may or may not get. submitted by /u/engelvl [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I adopted my son when he was eight, after he had been in foster care for almost four continuous years. I love him more than anything. He has been through so much and witnessed so much. I wish I could take his pain away. I try to give him as much love and support as I can but nothing seems to be enough. I know I can’t change what happened to him, and the best thing I can do is to support him through his challenges. I know all of this but sometimes it is so damn hard. He is in pain and I can’t help him. He is angry at the world and I can’t change that. I guess my question is for those of you wh ..read more

Silly question

I hope not to disrespect anyone with my silly question. We'll be fostering a 15yrs old girl in july, we don't know for how long. It's our first time. We (f/m both 44) do have a daughter, 7yo. We'll provide the foster girl a room with a bathroom next to it and a TV. We usually spend the evening watching shows with my daughter on the sofa or just playing a game or reading a book in bed. We usually go to sleep very early, around 10pm. Now with the silly question: What... are we going to do with a teenager hanging around alone because her foster parents are just too tired to stay up "late"? I kin ..read more

Foster parents changing name

I have posted in here before about my husband and I considering fostering my cousin’s baby. We didn’t go through with it because one of our other cousins were going to adopt him. That fell through and his foster parents told my grandma they want to adopt him, however they also told her they changed his first and middle name. This seems like a red flag to me, as he is half black and they are white and he is only 10 months old. We are trying to get more information to look into kinship adoption, but I am not sure if I am overreacting about the name change. Does anyone have any input? submitted ..read more

If a teen is pregnant and in foster care, this is true that the baby is almost always taking away in another foster family?

Hi, I’m in foster care and obviously pregnant. I plan on giving up the baby for adoption but sometime I have second thoughts about it tbh. My case worker told me that the baby is almost always taking away at birth because no family wants to have both the teen and the baby together. submitted by /u/Null_cat6270 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Spoiler for trigger warning for abuse. I need advice. This is just a throw away account. (I am a 17f) My dad was very emotionally abusive, along with mentally, and that's what got me into fostercare. However it has been a kinship. I'm trying to be anonymous here, someone who was close to me took me in. That was a mistake that I regret. Everything was going well, until a few months in. He resented me, he found it as babysitting if he couldn't actually parent me. I have many triggers and CPTSD, he knew this. But, he decided to downplay my mental issues. I was 16 at the time, now I wanted to be ..read more
