I am a 45-year old woman who is remarried with six children. I was married for 10 years in my first marriage and have 2 sons from that marriage. I have been remarried for 7 years and I legally adopted my husband's four daughters from his previous marriage. My husband's late wife was actually one of my best friends and my college roommate. She passed 11 years ago from a Car Accident. She passed away around the time of my divorce and after a couple of months after her passing, we started... What was the best gift you got when you adopted your child? A friend of mine is adopting 19 month old foster child and we're invited to court for the adoption. Is it appropriate to bring a gift (I'd leave it in the car until after the court session was over.) I've wanted to get her a gift for the adoption since his parent's rights were terminated, but I didn't want to jinx things, kwim? Also, does anyone know of any children's books about adoption of foster kids, all the ones I can find are... Gift ideas ..read more

Just a general question I hope I can get some answers to. If someone adopts, can they request a circumcised or uncircumcised boy? I'm thinking it would be a bit easier if a natural son and an adopted son were both the "same" down there. OTOH, what if someone adopted an uncircumcised son and for some reason, wanted to circumcise him? What would the procedure be ..read more

(Sigh) Where to start? A month ago I received a phone call from my Mom regarding my niece and nephew. There had been an altercation and she was driving to pick them up. It was late and I was tired. Over the phone, we decided that she would take my niece home with her and my nephew would stay with me, my husband and our son for the night. The following day, I drove both boys to school. I had to go in to my nephew's school to work out details regarding a class trip that was happening that days... Can we talk about kinship care ..read more

My spouse and I adopted our children several years ago. We've not reached out to other Fost/Adopt families, but I am now in need of connecting with other mothers. I am of "Advanced Maternal Age" as they say. We are not raising our kids religiously and are lacking a support system. I thought I would reach out, here, and see if there are any other families out there like ours. We are in Oregon, but please don't let that keep you from responding. Online support and friendship is wonderful... Isolated Secular Fost/Adopt Mother in Oregon ..read more

Hello, My name is Sarah Jones, and I'm a university student working on a research project that examines the effects of substance abuse on the foster care system. A large component of my research is made up of interviewing foster parents about their experiences. I'm interested in talking to foster parents where substance abuse has played a large part in the fostering experience. If this sounds interesting to you, please reply to this thread with any questions and contact mofostercareproject... Looking for Foster Parents Willing to Talk about Experiences ..read more
