Looking for a NAS solution for home that has HDD pre-installed

Hi, I'm looking for an easy to use NAS for home/personal use to backup my Mac with Time Machine and perhaps other storage. The WD My Cloud Expert looked ideal until I started reading reviews. I saw something that said the WD My Cloud Home was no longer being supported. I also looked at the QNAP TS-233 until I saw that you needed to install the HDD. As I am low vision, I'm pretty much "all thumbs" when it comes to working with screws, etc. so would prefer something where the drives are pre-installed or just push into the drive bay. Ideally, I'd like 8TB total, but would go down to 5TB. My budg ..read more

Local MyCloud keeps disconnecting

So, a year or so ago I set up a WD mycloud home NAS. It worked fine until WD discontinued support for it. At that point, their login system stopped working, but I was able to manually set up local access for the three computers that use it. That works completely fine, except for this one annoyance which is that every 2 weeks or so it disconnects itself, and I have to reset the device to get it to work again. This only takes about 5m, but it's quite annoying. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening or how to get it to stay connected? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/laerteis [visit redd ..read more

A new NAS for home, as a network drive (the previous Qnap TS-251 died)

So far, I have been using QNAP TS-251 model for years. My model has a known problem with the CPU. I made the trick of soldering the resistor and it survived 2 or even 3 years more. But yesterday he died completely. And I'm looking for something new. Even though I currently had an Intel version rather than an ARM one, I barely used anything more than: - sharing a network drive - snapshots enabled - Time Machine backups - backup photos from two phones to NAS - backing up data from the NAS drive to an external USB drive according to a schedule - daily to one drive and once a month to another ..read more

Best way to use Plex with something like OVM

I've been looking into using TrueNas for Plex (and other stuff like running game servers), in near future i want to upgrade my Dell OptiPlex 7010 to a JBOD or NAS, but for the meantime i need a way to have Plex run. I've read that it's possible to transfer Plex from Windows to Truenas, can i transfer it if all my stored media are on external hard drives. And is it still worth the transfer if i'll set OpenMediaVault up and let TrueNas look there for media? (Also need to run QBittorrent and will run the game servers on the TrueNas) submitted by /u/randomgamerz99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Looking for a pre-built NAS to use old drives

Hey there. I've just updated my PC from a stonking tower to a mini PC, and it's fantastic, but I've lost the storage space for my photography. What I want to do is get a new 4-bay NAS and install these drives, using my old 2-bay as my second backup, I also have Flickr so all is covered. Saw a great Synology that includes a photo management application that would give me everything I need, but Synology won't help me in any way because they haven't tested the drives. They even say they withdraw drive support if I was to install drives they haven't tested. So, I'm looking for advice for a NAS dr ..read more

I'm trying to transfer ~6.5TB of data from an external hard drive to my new NAS (my first NAS ever). The data is organized into three specific folders. 2 of the folders are ~2TB each and the 3rd folder is ~2.5TB. The 2.5TB folder WILL NOT copy over due to "not enough free space". To be clear, my NAS now has a SINGLE 20TB drive--so more than enough space to accomodate the transfer but I'm still running into this problem ever after 3 hard resets and reconfigurations of the NAS. What is my issue??? https://preview.redd.it/syb1u395sa0d1.png?width=426&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8ed36c ..read more

Is it possible to keep my mac pro 1.1 sleep with OSX 10.6 server and wake it up when one of the machines wants to back up, and when the backup is done, it goes back to sleep and this works with file sharing too? submitted by /u/pascaltoni [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

So Iv got a lot of spare parts a ryzen 5 apu a b550 it’d motherboard board and 32gb of ram (prob over kill ) as well a few m.2 drives My plan was to have the os On a usb stuck and that would allow me to use the 2 x m.2 slots Also leaves me with the pcie and 4 sata ports in case I want to add more storage . Is this possible or does the os of choice have to go on one of the m.2s? As strange as it’s sounds I won’t be running raid as every storage device will hold different data plus I have it all back up else where such as cloud and external storage My next question can I have access to my nas f ..read more
