This year has flown by so far and it’s almost time for our Autumn/Winter schedule to kick into gear. We have lots of events planned, but there has also been a number of enforced changes we need to tell you about. You can see all our events currently open for entry here. Adult Duathlon Series Dates for this popular series have now been set for 2023/4 and can found on the duathlon series page of our website here (which has been updated, but needs a few more additions). We have opened entry for the first 4 events on Entrycentral. We had intended to continue running these events through British Tr ..read more

These monthly events are back after a short break during May due to all the bank holidays and the more competitive triathlon/junior aquathlon taking place too. The next event is Monday 26th June. Two things you need to know about: – We have updated the web page for this series, so feel free to take a look here. You can still enter any event via the British Triathlon website, but as lots of people prefer to enter on the night we have tried to streamline things. We have therefore created a registration form – this just needs to be completed once a year and saves you filling out paper forms ever ..read more

We recently celebrated 12 months of the Monday night monthly aquathlons at Stradbroke. These have been really fun events to deliver with a great team of volunteers giving up their time to help each month (Thanks Ben, Julia, Elliot and Mark!). We’ve also really enjoyed seeing regular participants as well as new faces each month, some taking their first steps in multi-sport. Hannah Sangan, British Triathlon’s Regional Manager visited us in March and was hopefully pleased with what she saw. We have been really lucky to have received funding from British Tri to deliver these GO TRI Local events o ..read more

‘My favourite local event’ and ‘there is such a great atmosphere’ are just some of the comments we have received about Stradbroke Triathlon & Junior Aquathlon in recent years. RUN For 2023 the event takes place on Sunday 21st May. It is perfect for those new to multisport, anyone looking to build their confidence or more experienced campaigners wanting an early season test. Adults tackle a 400m pool swim, 17km cycle on quiet lanes and a 3k traffic-free run. Don’t like running? No problem – we have an aquabike option too (Swim/bike). Juniors will complete a swim followed by a run, with dist ..read more

Fern & Forest Duathlon

As you may know, we reluctantly took the decision to cancel this year’s Fern & Forest duathlon scheduled to be held on 26th March. This is never the kind of decision you want to make as an event organiser. In fact, I believe it is the first event we have chosen to cancel ourselves (we did of course have to cancel several due to Covid restrictions). So why did we make this decision? Largely it was due to low entry numbers. We simply got to a point where we were going to have to pay out a significant amount of money (for chip timing, medical cover and other costs) and income from entries was ..read more

Thetford Enduro Duathlon Report

Although it was a slightly chilly start, competitors participating in our Enduro Duathlon enjoyed the October sunshine that still carried some warmth as the day progressed. This was the second running of what is a 3-hour challenge, The idea is to complete run and bike laps until the time elapses. Each run and each bike count as individual laps. Once the time is up you can finish the lap you are on, with any time difference between those on the same lap calculated to work out finishing positions…simple right! The course consists of 2.75km trail run snaking its way through the trees. Participant ..read more

Summer Duathlon Series

With course recce’s, risk assessments to write and ensuring we had all the correct signage set-up and ready to go it certainly created plenty of extra work, but we really enjoyed launching the new summer duathlon series recently. Numbers were fairly low for the first of the 4-race series starting on 6th June and ending on 5th September (the other dates are 11th and 25th July). Regardless it seemed like everyone really enjoyed themselves and we did too. We were using a brand new course for the first time. It’s not super-technical, but does provide a bit more challenge than the winter route. The ..read more

You might have seen from our Facebook page or events calendar that some new aquathlon events are starting soon at Stradbroke. Here’s a bit more info about it. This is a new initiative in conjunction with British Triathlon and Stradbroke Swim & Fitness Centre. The idea is we will offer a monthly beginner and family-friendly multi-sport event. It will take place at the same time and place each month, be low cost, non-competitive and offer short distances. Our event will consist of a short swim in the pool followed by a short run using the track around the outside of the adjacent playing fie ..read more

Well done to those who achieved their Winter Series Awards – They were hard earned! Lewis Tippett claiming his winter series award In fact, not many people (Adults or Juniors) actually have claimed a series since we introduced it a few years ago. Maybe we should have a hall of fame? We are now looking forward to the new summer series, which kicks off on 10th April. It uses a different course to the winter events and is based from Rabbit field (where the recent Fern & Forest Events were held). For the adults It’s not super technical, but perhaps a slightly harder course with a little sand ..read more
